Wi-fi

Working of Wi-fi
------------------

The working of wi-fi is described below.

* More than one clients and Access Points are connected in a typical wi-fi connection.
* An AP(Access Point) broadcasts its Service Set Identifier(SSID) via frames.
* The frames are known as beacons.
* Beacons are transmitted at a speed of minimum 1Mbps.
* So the minimum speed of wi-fi is 1 Mbps.
* If two APs of the same SSID are in range of the client, the firmware may decide based on signal strength to which of the two APs it will connect.
* In wi-fi standards user has the power to decide the connection criteria.
* Since Wi-Fi transmits in the air, it has the same properties as non-switched ethernet
network.

Examples of Wireless devices are

1. Wireless routers

2. Wireless Acess Point (WAP)

3. Wireless Adapter

4. Range extender

The wireless client determines it's access point based on the ssid and the wireless mac address of the AP.

If the wireless network name (ssid) is same we are using the wireless mac to find out our source.
