Try out the steps provided below to fix the issue.
1) In system preferences on the Mac, assign an IP address in the Ethernet settings manually using DHCP.
2) Connect the Mac to the extender with an Ethernet cable, and plug in the extender.
3) Open your internet browser and enter the IP address of the extender, 192.168.1.240; after a minute you should get the setup screen of the extender, and the existing settings will appear in the boxes.
4) You need to change all the settings, including security, to match those on your router. We did some of this piecemeal, saving settings as we went. If you do this, you get a reboot message from the extender -- you can unplug it from the power and replug it, then refresh the internet browser to verify these settings have been changed. The last setting to change is the IP address of the extender. Once you change this and save it, you cannot get back into the setup screen because the original address is no longer valid. Change the IP address for the extender and the gateway address to match the address of your router. Save settings, reboot (or unplug and replug to the power), and when the extender resets it should be working.
5) Any time you make changes to your router settings you have to hit reset on the extender and start over.
