Migration to Norton Internet Security 2009 from NIS 2008 version

Yesterday night I received one promotional mail which gave me a free chance to install Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2009 version on my computer. Till that time NIS 2008 was running on my computer. I found it is so easy to install NIS 2009 version on my computer compared to the previous version. But after installing the NIS 2009 , I found some difficulty on my computer. So I started talking to one of my friend who is really an expert in AntiVirus related stuff. He gave me some suggestions and easily I fixed the issue with Norton on my computer. The suggestions he gave me are:

Safe steps to install Norton Internet Security on your computer

The major precautions we need to take before migrating to the newer Norton products are:

1. Uninstall previously installed Norton products

Here I installed Norton Internet Security 2008 on my computer and I uninstalled it using Norton Removal Tool. I recommend you to use Norton Removal Tool to uninstall Norton products from your computer than using conventional Add/Remove programs.

2. Restart your computer

3. Remove LiveUpdate from your computer

NIS 2009 is not using a different LiveUpdate to update the product on your computer. LiveUpdate is integrated with the NIS 2009 and we don't need to keep the conventional LiveUpdate on our computer.

We can remove LiveUpdate from our computer using Add/Remove Programs.

4. Removal of Norton Remnants from your computer

If you are not sure whether the previously installed Norton product is fully removed from your computer , you can run Norton Removal Tool in safe mode.

After following the above 4 steps we can install the fresh copy of latest Norton product on our computer without having any issues.
