Add More Locations in Send To Menu

To transfer one file to another location on a Microsoft PC, we usually right click on the mouse after selecting the file. It will show us a list of places to where we can send the file using the 'Send to' option. This feature is available in all latest releases of Microsoft Operating systems and is known as Context Menu. This tutorial is for beginners who are not much familiar with Microsoft shortcuts. Here you can learn how to activate Extended Context Menu using keyboard and mouse.

Normally if you right click on a file and select Send To option in the menu, you will find the following options:

1. Compressed (Zipped ) Folder

2. Desktop

3. Documents

4. Fax recipient

5. Mail recipient

6. Removable Drive

Explore more options in Windows 7 Send To Menu
These items are available in normal send to menu and are known as Context Menu. However, it is the entire list. We can have more options if we expand the 'sent to'. Next paragraph explains how to do it.

How to add more options to Send To Menu

It is very simple to add more options to Send To Menu. While right-clicking on the file you should press [Shift] button. Now you can see more folder names in Send To Menu. This [Shift] button trick works with all Microsoft Operating systems starting with Windows Vista.

See the new Send To menu:

Easily Find Out Malicious Short URLs In Firefox By Displaying Real URL

Nowadays it is not rare users use shortened URLs in their emails and Tweets. Most of the shortened links are short of genuine non-malicious links but some are not. So when you get a message or email having shortened URLs, we must ensure that they are genuine and does not lead to suspicious websites before clicking it. If you are using Firefox browser, there is an add-on named Long URL Please to determine the original address before clicking it. So we can easily see the real destination of the shortened URL and determine whether it is safe to click. This tutorial explains how the Firefox add-on Long URL Please helps to find the real destination website address behind the short form and helps to identify potentially dangerous links before we click on it.

See the Real Link Without Clicking Shortened URL

Here I am explaining the importance of this add-on to find the destination address by seeing the short form of the link. To explain it, I have shortened one of my blog post links with webpage address shortening service and tweet the shortened link. On Firefox window with the Long URL Please add-on, the real link is displayed without any error.

  • URL Shortening

Here I shortened one of my blog post links.
    http://www.corenetworkz.com/2010/06/capture-full-screen-shot-using-firefox.html

    The shortened form is: http://bit.ly/9n5eSR

  • Short Address in Standard Firefox Window

See my actual Tweet in the browser where no long URL plugin is installed.

Short to long url display addon

  • Firefox Page With Add-on installed

See how it is displayed in Firefox browser where the plugin for short link to actual link is installed.

Display the actual website instead of short form

As you see, it is easy to find the destination address from the short links. So it is not hard to find out whether the shortened link you received is malicious and leads to the virus-infected website. If you receive short form links often from your friends and other sources, I recommend you to install this Firefox plugin. To download this Plugin, visit the link below.

Check Reliance Netconnect Usage Bill & Support Links For Internet Issues

Last week one of my friends purchased Reliance Netconnect from a local dealer. Reliance NetConnect is a wireless broadband Internet service from Reliance which offers download speed up to 3.1 Mbps. Reliance USB modem installation and activation are done by the technician from the local dealer and offered their assistance in any future issues too. In the ads, Reliance offers 3.1 Mbps speed but we are not getting speed more than 1 Mbps. Though it is less than the speed they actually promised, we know the real download speed depends on multiple factors like a total number of Wireless Internet users, distance from the mobile tower etc. Here I collect some of the useful information for Reliance Netconnect users.

Useful links and details for Reliance Netconnect Users

Testing Speed Difference Between Reliance Netconnect & Tata Photon

I have my Tata Photon Plus connection and its speed is around the same speed of this reliance connection. If we compare the speed between Photon plus and Reliance Netconnect, I feel Photon plus is faster. But I understand the fact that Tata Tower is nearer to our place than Reliance tower.

This distance has an effect on the speed of both Photon Plus and Reliance wireless Internet (Netconnect). Compared to a traditional cable Internet connection, this mobile Internet facility is more helpful because we often move to our home town and other places depending on the work and holidays plans. However, Reliance Netconnect is fast only in major cities.

In local towns, you can expect only basic CDMA speed from Reliance Netconnect. I hope in near future they will add more HSIA towers in more locations. One of our friend planning to buy BSNL CDMA EVDO/1X data card and after testing that I will write a detailed review post comparing the speed and service provided by Tata Photon Plus, Reliance Netconnect, and BSNL wireless Internet. Wireless Network Keep Connecting and Disconnecting On my Computer

Have you ever faced the issue where your computer keeps connecting and disconnecting from the wireless network (IEEE802.11)? It is like you can see the WiFi available in your area with full strength but while trying to connect, it is disconnecting right after made a connection to the network. This tutorial will help you to fix such WiFi connectivity issues. Here we can analyze the common reasons for such an issue with proper solutions to resolve the issue. Here I assume you can see the WiFi on your PC and having issues to make a successful connection. While following the steps provided in this tutorial, you must ensure that there are no other devices which uses IEEE802 signal with same frequency like Microwave oven etc. If you have any such device which is using a signal with the same frequency, I recommend you to turn off before proceeding to next steps.

Resolve Frequent Wireless Disconnection Issues
  1. Check If you can see SSID

If you are not seeing IEEE802.11 Networks on your laptop, follow the instructions provided in the link below.
My Laptop is Not Receiving Signals and Internet

  2. Make sure you have the right wireless key

If you are entering the wrong key, you cannot connect. So make sure you have the correct key (Wireless network Authentication). It is also important to make sure, no one else has the key except only authorized connection users.

  3. Shift to WZC from other utilities

If you are using different wireless utilities (eg: Dell utility) to manage your IEEE802.11 connections, you may stop it and start using WZC.
How to start Wireless Zero Configuration ( WZC )

  4. Delete all preferred Networks and Refresh the list

Clear all saved networks on your PC and refresh the wireless network list. Follow the steps provided in the link below for more details.
    WiFi Connection Troubleshooting step 1

  5. Unplug the WiFi Adapter and reconnect it

If you are using a USB adapter, you may unplug the adapter and reconnect it.

  6. Steps to done on Access Point

Following steps can be done only if you have access to the Access Point(AP) / Router. If you are doubting where there is no signal from a router or AP, follow the steps below.
No SSID from Access Point and Router

Other troubleshooting steps for frequent WiFi disconnection are:

  7. Changing the Wireless Channel to fix frequent disconnection

Sometimes if there are some other signals using the same channel, you may face intermittent issues due to interference. So changing channel is a good choice.
Change Channel to improve Signal Quality

  8. Change wireless security to fix frequent WiFi disconnection

Sometimes your computer may not able to adjust with the security settings on your AP. So disable the IEEE802.11 protection enabled on AP and check for the issue.
Change Security on your Router -WEP or WPA

  9. Change Wireless Network Name (SSID)

If still face frequent disconnections occur on devices, you may need to change the name of WiFi network from the router. Following router tutorials will help to do it.

  10. Check MAC filter settings

Wrong MAC filter settings on Router/Access Point can deny you from accessing IEEE802.11 network. Make sure MAC address of your WLAN NIC is allowed to join the WiFi.

I cannot say this tutorial has everything to resolve the issue. There are still many steps to research and fix the connectivity issue. Some of the left out tips are changing the broadcast type, reduce the beacon interval etc to fix this frequent wireless disconnection issue. However, I believe, most of the WiFi connectivity issues will be resolved by following the steps provided in this guide.

Change The Name & Location Of Computer Hard Disk Drive

By partitioning, we divide the single hard disk drive into primary and secondary drives and the secondary drive into a number of logical units. So while opening the My Computer icon, you will see a number of units named C, D, E etc. By creating smaller units improves the efficiency by reducing the size of Master File Table (MFT) for a smaller partition. This guide tells how to change the name of each partition and assign a different path too. For example, if you want to change the D drive name to H, it is possible. However, we cannot change the name of the drive where OS is installed.

Assign Different Letter to Computer Hard Disk Drive Partition

To assign different drive letter by removing the current one, follow the steps below.
  1. Right click on My Computer

  2. Click on Manage

  3. Click on Disk Management

Disk Management is under Storage. Now you can see all the drives in your PC.
    Swap driver name

  4. Right click on a unit and click on Change Drive letters and Paths
    Drop name

Note: You cannot change the letter assigned to booting drive. If you try to assign a different alphabet to it, it will not change.

  5. Click on Change button

  6. Now you will get an option to select any letter from the current letter for the current partition.
    assign name manually

You can select any letter from the drop-down menu for that partition. After selecting the letter, you should click OK.

How to Recover Router Password

I had been working for a router manufacturer company's tech support for one year. Most of the time in SOHO customer care service, I was receiving calls regarding issues with lost router password. The complaints were like customer forgot router password, she could not log in to her wireless router or the password she set for the router was no longer working, etc.. Most of the time customer set a different password for their wireless router by changing the default password, and later they failed to recall the password from memory. They need a way to recover their lost router password.

How to recover Lost Router Password
Unfortunately for Routers belong to standard Small Office Home Office devices category, there is no lost password recovery procedure like on high-end routers. So practically we cannot recover the lost password and save the current router settings. However, we have a process to follow in case of lost modem/router password. To learn the right steps to follow while trying to recover a modem password, follow the guide given below.

  1. Check for the Old Router Password
In this step, we should try to pick the old router password from either memory or any written documents. For an average user, there is a chance that he may write down the router password in his diary or other papers. Another workaround is to ask the customer to use word combinations with significant importance in his life.

  2. Try the Default Username and Password to login Router
Sometimes the user may never change his default router username and password. So it is worth to try the default username and password to log in his router. The default username and password is a combination of admin. Have a look at the possible combinations given below.

    1. Try both username and password as admin

    2. Username is admin and leaves the password field blank

    3. Username is blank and the password is admin

  3. Reset Router Settings

If the above two options won't work, the last one is reset and reconfigure your router. To know the steps to reset your router click on the link below.

Soft reset is done by selecting the reset options through the router administration page(web interface). Depends on various firmware and manufactures, these options come in various forms like a reset to factory default, reboot with factory settings etc.

You should select the particular option and click OK. Now the router starts rebooting and within one minute it will be back with default factory settings. This kind of reset is known as soft reset.

2. Reset by holding the reset button (Hard Reset)
If a soft reset is not working for you, next option is holding the reset button of your router for 30 seconds and release your hands after it.

  2. Unplug the power cable (never release your hands from holding reset button) for 30 seconds

  3. Connect the power cable and still hold the reset button for 30 seconds

  4. Release your hands now (you are continuously holding the reset button for 90 seconds)

  5. Now wait one minute and make sure power button is steady.

It is recommended to perform a power cycle after resetting your modem. To learn how to do this, click on the link below.

By default, we cannot select or copy content from Command Prompt to notepad because it is disabled. Similarly, we cannot paste script or text from notepad to DOS Prompt which is very important if you are performing troubleshooting by reading a guide. It is required to run the script or commands noted in the guide on MS-DOS to complete the troubleshooting. It would be very much helpful if you can directly copy the command from notepad to DOS prompt. However, defaults settings do not allow this feature. If you try to select a particular text from it, your mouse fails and no copying will be performed. 'Select all' option in Command Prompt too will not help but a little change in its properties settings will allow us to select and copy content to the Windows clipboard. This tutorial explains how to enable copying and pasting feature on DOS Prompt.

Copy Text from DOS Window

Here we are going to change the default settings on MS-DOS to enable copying text from it. The same settings will enable pasting script on DOS from notepad.
  1. Start CMD by typing it on Windows Search

  2. Right click on command prompt top bar
    choose code

  3. Click Properties

Now the properties window will be opened. In order to enable selection and copying, we need to check Quick Edit Mode and click OK.
    edit

  4. Now you will see another window asking whether the changes apply to the current window only or modify the shortcut that started this window.
    activate text choosing

If you are looking for a way to just activate text selection and copying for the current window only, you should select Apply properties to current window only. If you like to activate the content selection and copying properties for all time, you should select the option Modify shortcut that started this window. After selecting the right option click OK.

Copy and Paste Text from Command prompt

Now we have enabled Quick Edit Mode and now it is easy to copy content from the DOS. In order to copy and paste text from the command prompt, you should select the desired content using mouse point and either press enter button or use the following keyboard combination [CTRL] + [C].
add

By using the keyboard combination [Ctrl] and [V] we can paste the copied content to notepad or any other text editor software.

Can Wrong Keywords in Domain Name Affect Google Search Rank?

Update: This Article lost its relevance after Google's EMD, Panda and Penguin updates but still recommendable to read. This article deals with two questions most webmasters ask. Both of them are ;
  1. Can a wrong keyword in domain name affect the ranking?

  2. Why does my site lose ranking for certain search phrases?

After the Exact Match Domain (EMD) update, Google reduced the impact of keywords in domain name. However, many SEO professionals feel following disadvantages are possible with a domain with wrong keywords.

  • Gives false information to Search Engine Spiders

While reading the domain name of your website, Search Engine spiders may get a false impression about your business and there is a chance of ranking well for the words which you never intended to rank well.

  • Inbound links without anchor text can harm your ranking in actual keywords

Do you know why inbound links without anchor text harm your ranks in actual keywords? It is because as long as there is no anchor text (text on the link), spiders may think this link as a vote for your website in the words mentioned URL. So that link actually increases your website ranking for keywords in your domain name instead of your actual keywords. However, after Penguin update, most webmasters don't prefer links with money phrases.

  • They Can Confuse Users

While discussing whether wrong keywords in domain name actually hurt our website rank or not, we need to think in users view also. Most of the users will get a wrong impression about your business while reading the URL with wrong words. It can hurt the flow of targeted visits. For example, if you are a tour coordinator in Europe but the URL having keywords related to website development services in Miami, even though you got a good position in Google Search Result, users will be confused. Some users just read the title tag and the description in Search Result but many users read the URL too.

Now let us come to the second question. It is not rare to see losing positions in Google results for queries where you were top 1. Most of the time this situation happens when your website is not too old and you are in a stage to develop the site with more new articles. Another possible reason is the latest Google algorithm updates. One of my friends faced this issue. His blog was getting a good amount of traffic from certain keywords but lost it suddenly. While analyzing the issue, he found that he lost his high ranking for that keywords in Google. He is lucky that some other keywords start getting more traffic. So his website didn't show many drops in traffic. All the reasons below are based on simple logic on how do Google and other major Search Engines work.
  1. Possible Google dance

Maybe it is the Google dance which caused a sudden drop in your website ranking for certain keywords. If it is the real reason, you may recover your keyword rank within some weeks.

  2. Possible Search Algorithm updates

Search Engines are always in their way to provide better results to their users. So they update their algorithm every time and some of them may badly affect ranking.

  3. The competitor is doing better than you

If the competitor succeeds in gaining more trust in Google for those keywords, they will appear above you. It clearly shows the basic rule, survival of fittest.

  4. Lost backlinks

If your site lost some important backlinks, it will reflect in ranking.

  5. Google Devalued spammy links

It is possible big G may devalue some of the backlinks pointing to your site. There are so many reasons like paid links, blog network, spam links etc can attract Google devaluation. If any of the strong links (those were giving a good portion of power to your site) pointing are devalued, you will definitely lose the current position in results.
