Reset GoDaddy Web Hosting Accounts To Solve Multiple Issues

One of my websites was hosted with an ordinary plan from a less popular company but I have bought a new premium hosting from GoDaddy due to the high potential of that site. However, after adding the domain name to the new plan, I have received an error message "This Domain is Already Assigned to an Account" and failed the process. After contacting GoDaddy technical support only I came to know that the previous company I used to host my website is one of their resellers. Unless I have released my domain name from their account, I cannot add it to my current hosting. I followed the procedure to remove SysToSys.com (domain I own )from the reseller hosting using the steps provided in the support link below.

Remove Primary Domain From Hosting

However, there was another issue. I used SysToSys as the primary domain while configuring the previous web host. To remove a primary domain from Godaddy web host we need to follow different set of instructions.

Unfortunately above steps cannot be completed if you are using their reseller product. It is because, for a user purchased server space from one of their reseller cannot access the following location gateway.godaddy.com. It is a must step to complete the procedure for those who are having Linux cPanel. So the only option left is to reset the entire host account and Set Up a new one from scratch. That is what I did to remove primary domain name configured in GoDaddy Reseller host program.

How to Reset and Reconfigure GoDaddy Web Host Accounts

You can do it by following the steps below but it is important to know that you will loose all current configurations you have made.
  1. Sign In using the customer id (or username ) and password provided by reseller. You can see Sign In option at their home pages.

  2. Go to My Account

  3. Click on Launch button at Hosting

  4. Click on Settings

  5. Now select Reset Account tab and click the button Reset Account

  6. We need to confirm the action by typing reset in the box

  7. We may need to wait a little to complete the procedure

  8. Now we need to configure it from the beginning and all the web addresses assigned to the past account are released.

I had reset GoDaddy web host one year ago to solve another set of issues. That time I had been experiencing slower server response and a simple reset fixed it.However, it is recommended to take necessary backups (data base, uploaded files etc ) before initializing the reset process.

Tools To Check Historical Design Of a Website

Many professional websites change their designs over time in order to cop up with the latest technology and trend. Gone the days of designing websites with HTML tables and now everyone uses CSS. Now a days most of the new templates are following the responsive concepts because of the popularity of smartphones and tablets. It is must for fresh candidates to learn fluid design and bootstrap to get job as a designer. However, it is interesting to view the design changes of popular brands over time to understand the way they responded to changes in technology. If you are interested to check the historical outlook of a website, you can view its historical screenshot using online tools explained in this guide. Most of those tools are free. I hope this tutorial will help web developers and ordinary users who are interested to watch the changes in web templates of any websites over time.

Tools To Examine Past Web Design Changes Of a Brand
  1. Internet Archive Wayback Machine

Whenever I want to see the historical layout of a website, first tool that comes in my mind is Internet Archive Wayback Machine. They have a large collection of web screenshots saved in their database. It is very easy to use this tool and here I demonstrate the procedure to find historical layouts of CoreNetworkZ.com using this tool. You can use the same procedure for any domain names.

    • Visit the link http://archive.org/web/

    • Type http://www.corenetworkz.com and press 'BROWSE HISTORY' button

    • Wayback Machine displays the number of screenshots taken by them over time. All you have to do is to click on the date on which they have a screenshot saved.

    • You may click on the blue circle to view the screenshot took on that day.

  2. Domain Tools Screenshot History

Another important tool to view the past design of a website is Domain Tools Screenshot History. It is also a free service and very easy to use. Using this service I am going to check the historical screenshots of CoreNetworkZ.com.

    • Visit the link http://www.domaintools.com/research/screenshot-history/

    • Type corenetworkz.com without WWW or http:// and press LOOKUP button

    • Now it will display all available screenshots of CoreNetworkZ.

Benefits Of Using Wayback Machines

These services are handy due to a number of reasons.

  • It is easy for a website designer to find out the past layout of an expired domain which is no longer available with Google Cache. One of my friends let accidentally expire his domain name and hosting. He purchased it back from the expired domain bidding but completely lost the website files. With the help of http://archive.org/web/, I recovered his website design.

  • These services help us closely monitor how big brands accommodate latest technologies in their websites over time.

Save Bandwidth By Preventing Others Show Images Hosted By You

If you are really concerned about Monthly Bandwidth Transfer, you can optimize a few settings on your hosting  and save a little of it. If you do not know the meaning of bandwidth, it is nothing but the data transferred from the server to client computer. Bandwidth is used to show a web page and all its content to a user. If all the components like video, flash, images etc are hosted with your web server, more bandwidth will be taken to load them on browser. As the amount of data transfers to the browser from server increases, it consumes more of it. This tutorial explains some simple tips to reduce the server bandwidth consumption.

  1. Stop Others From Show Photos Hosted By You On their Websites

It is common to copy the image including the hosting address to show a picture on newbie blogs. If some newbie bloggers want to show the images already displayed by you, it is possible, they may copy the image location and paste it on their blogs. By doing so, they can show those images on their blogs at the cost of your monthly bandwidth. However, you can disable this type of stealing by using 'Hotlink Protection' provided by cPanel. Follow the steps below to prevent others from displaying photos hosted on your web server on third party blogs.

    1. login to your hosting account and go to 'My Account'

    2. Click Launch button opposite to Hosting

    3. Click Manage

In cPanel you can see Manage button. Press this button to access hosting management page.

    4. Go to Security

    5. Click Hotlink Protection

    6. If the Hotlink Protection is disabled, you should click on enable button.

    7. type the domain names of the websites which are allowed to show the images hosted in this server. Here I type the domain names of my blog 'CoreNetworkZ.com' and SysToSys portal.

After saving this configuration, no websites other than SysToSys and CoreNetworkZ are allowed to show images hosted with my web server. In other words,I have successfully blocked other websites from using my server bandwidth.

  2. Use Images With Lower Resolution

As the size of a picture increases, it costs more bandwidth. It is advised to use formats which support compression like .jpg and .gif. Lower size images not only save the bandwidth but also improve your loading time and Search Engine ranking. Google added web loading time as one of the factors which determine the Search Rank of a web page.

  3. Reduce the Use Of Flash

Though flash is very appealing for a user, it takes too much time to load on browser due to its large size. For bandwidth optimization, you must reduce the usage of flash on your webpages.

  4. Host your Videos & Images on External Hosting Sites

If you upload the videos to your server, it will cost you a great deal of bandwidth once a user play it. I always recommend you to use YouTube and other similar services to place your videos and embed the iframe code on your website for users who wants to play it.

  5. Reduce the HTML File Size

By using external Style sheet and JavaScript instead of inline styling, you can reduce the total HTML file size.

  6. Prevent Loading Unnecessary Information

It is better configure your page in a manner to load only the necessary details first.

By simply following the six steps explained in this guide, you can reduce the amount of data transfers from server to user computer and improve the loading time. First step explains the prevention of third party websites to show pictures hosted by you while others are directly reducing the amount of data transfer.
