The IP address is the third layer address in the TCP/IP Protocol Stack, given to each device connected to a network. In the Internet layer of the TCP/IP Protocol Stack, each device in a network has a unique address known as the IP address.

There are two versions of TCP/IP: IPv4 and IPv6.

Only a minority of networks use IPv6.

Most networks use the IPv4 version to assign a logical address to devices in a network. However, the future is with IPv6.

In this tutorial, you will learn the differences between IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. The second part explains the different classes of IPv4 addresses.

Differences Between IPv4 and IPv6

Let us check the fundamental differences between IPv4 and IPv6.

Length

IPv4 is a 32-bit address broken into four octets separated by a period. IPversion6 is a 128-bit long address and can give more addresses than IPversion4 offers. Examples of IPversion4 and IPversion6 addresses are below.

IPversion4 addressing: 10.0.0.1 or in binary form 00001010 00000000 00000000 00000001

IPv6 addressing: E3D7:0000:0000:0000:51F4:9BC8:C0A8:6420

Representation

IPv6 is a 128-bit binary number represented in hexadecimal format. IPv4 is a 32-bit binary number represented in decimal format.

The capacity of possible addresses:

IPv6 can give more addresses than IPv4.

Checksum field:

In the IPv4 addressing header, we can see the checksum field. IPv6 does not have it.

Protocols Supported:

Another difference between IPv4 addressing and IPv6 addressing is the supported protocols. IPversion4 supports ARP and IGMP. IPv6 supports NDP and MLD.

Different Classes of IP Addresses

IPv4 addresses have five classes. They are:

Class A addresses(Range from 1 to 126)

class B addresses (Range from 128 to 191)

Class C addresses (Range from 192 to 223)

class D addresses (Range from 224 to 239)

Class E addresses (Range from 240 to 254)

You have learned the differences between IPv4 and IPv6. Let me summarize the differences (in a table), and I believe this table will help you understand better.

Difference

IPv4

IPv6

Popularity

More Popular

Less Popular For now

Number Of Addresses

Less

More

Representation

32-bit binary number

128-bit binary number

Protocols Supported:

ARP and IGMP

NDP and MLD

Checksum field:

Present

Absent

Network Address Translation (NAT)

Supports

Absent

Packet Header

Smaller

Larger

What is the Future of IPv4 and IPv6?

Right now, the majority of networks use IPv4. But it will change soon. The future is with IPv6.

So, I had to find a solution by myself. Fortunately, I fixed this problem. Let me explain how I fixed the modem reboot error - Failed to Obtain Write lock on IM.

The solution for "Failed to Obtain Write lock on IM"

I told you before about my efforts to find an official solution for the error. However, I could not find any official support to fix this problem. So, I decided to troubleshoot the problem by myself.

How to Power Cycle a Modem?

The first step I did was power cycling the modem. Fortunately, it worked, and the modem came back to its normal state.

So, let us check how to do it.

The first step is to disconnect the power from the DSL modem. Switch off the modem if it has a battery. If it does not have a battery, unplug the power cable.

ping; transmit failed, error code 10045

Wait for three minutes after unplugging the power cable from the modem. Reconnect the power cable and wait till all lights are steady.

The last instruction can vary with modem models. Some modems use blinking lights for other indicators. At least wait till the power light is steady. Once the power light is stable, check for the error.

My DSL modem fixed the problem automatically after power cycling it.

What If the Error Repeats?

I fixed this error with a simple power cycling. However, if the issue repeats, the next available solution is to upgrade the firmware.

TELUS Mobility 5G Internet Configuration Guide

Check the current firmware on your modem. Now, check for the latest stable firmware version released by the modem manufacturer. If your modem does not have the latest firmware, upgrade it. Always ensure that the DSL modem, you have, is running on the updated stable firmware version.

We know the reason for getting this error code while ping to a remote device from your computer. Now, we check the possible solution to fix the transmit failed error code 10045.

Steps to fix the error "ping; transmit failed, error code 10045"

The first step to fix this problem is to reset the TCP/IP configuration. If it does not work, we will go to the next step.
In the second step, we will reset the Windows Socket and turn off the firewall.

Reset TCP/IP Stack

The primary solution is to reset the TCP/IP stack (on your Windows PC). Let us check how to do it.

How to Uninstall and Reinstall TCP/IP Stack?

Type netsh int ip reset c:\tcp.txt on the Command Prompt and Press the enter key.

You might need to reboot your computer.

We should check whether the problem exists or not. Try to ping a website address or remote IP address from your computer.

ping www.corenetworkz.com

If you still see the transmit failed error code 10045, go to the second solution.

Windows Socket Reset

The second solution to the ping error code 10045 is to reset the Windows socket with the command netsh winsock reset. Let us check the process.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator (We have explained it in the first solution).

Type the command netsh winsock reset and press the Enter key.

You must restart the computer to complete it.

After rebooting the PC, ping a remote IP address (or a website URL). If you receive the error "ping; transmit failed, error code 10045", follow the next solution.

Turn Off the Firewall Protection

The final solution to fix the ping transmit failed error code 10045 is to turn off the Firewall protection.

When someone faces network connectivity issues, the first command that comes to mind while troubleshooting the problem is ping.

We can identify the issue by analyzing the error code generated by the ping. Today, we discuss a ping error, "hardware error".

Let us check what is a Ping Hard Error and how to fix it.

At first, we check when you might see a ping hardware error. Like any other ICMP error code, you might get a hardware error when you ping a remote IP address from your computer.

How to Conduct a Ping Test?

Let us check the reasons for getting a ping reply hardware error.

Reasons for Getting Ping Hardware Error

The possible reasons for getting hardware error when you ping to an IP address are:

Bad Ethernet cable

Disconnected Ethernet cable

Disabled Network Adapter

An outdated Network Adapter Driver

In most cases, disabled Network Adapters generate a ping hardware error. Some users report they see hardware errors when they ping from a computer just after waking the system from sleep mode.

An outdated NIC driver may generate a hardware error.

You may also receive hardware errors when you ping with an unplugged Ethernet cable on a computer. These are the common reasons for getting hardware errors while you ping a different IP address from a computer.

You have learned the possible reasons for getting a ping hardware error. Now, we move to the solution part. Let us check how to fix the ping hardware error.

How to Resolve Ping Hardware Error Message?

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot and resolve the ping hardware error.

Unplug and reconnect the Ethernet cable.

Check if the Adapter is enabled. To check and enable the Ethernet adapter on your computer, follow the steps mentioned in the link below.

How To Enable Disabled Ethernet Adapter On Your Computer?

Restart your computer

Replace the Ethernet cable.

Replace the NIC and check for the issue.

Some reports say the hardware error shows more with USB modems. When you see a ping hardware error, the first thing to do is to unplug the USB modem. Then reconnect the modem after five minutes.

If it does not work or the modem is not a USB modem, restart your computer.

Always ensure the ethernet cable between the modem and computer is working fine. A damaged network cable causes a hardware error.

Ping is a network utility that checks the connectivity between two nodes in a computer network. Let me explain how this utility helps to find the network connectivity issues.

Ping sends ICMP packets to the destination device, and if the packets reach the destination successfully, the source device will receive ICMP replies.

If the ICMP packets fail to reach the destination, we will get a ping packet loss reply.

ICMP is the short form of Internet Control Message Protocol.

Let us check how to conduct a ping from your computer. Here, I teach you how to check the connectivity between your computer and this website (CoreNetworkZ.com) with a ping test.

How to Perform a Ping Test?

Let us check how to perform a ping test. You want a computer and an Internet connection to conduct the ping test. Here, I explain the ping test on a Windows computer.

Press the Windows and R keys together to open the Run.

Type cmd on the Run and click OK.

Type ping www.corenetworkz.com on the Command Prompt. Press the Enter key.

You can see this in the screenshot below.

If you analyze the test results, you can say the ping test was successful. This computer received four replies from the CoreNetworkZ.com server. It says the connectivity between this Windows computer and the CoreNetworkZ.com server is fine.

Practical Uses of Ping Command

You have learned the ping test and how to perform it on your computer. Let us check some of our advanced tutorials that use the ping test concepts.

Each of the tutorials uses the ping test concept.

How Ping Operates?

Let us check and learn the operation of the ping utility. When we ping a destination host from our computer, ping sends ICMP echo request packets to the destination.

By default, ping sends four packets and then waits for the ICMP reply from the destination host.

If the packets reach the destination host successfully, our computer will receive an ICMP reply from the destination. If there is no valid ICMP reply from the destination, ping displays a packet loss message.

Let Us Check a few Critical Ping Error Codes

The ping operation will fail if there is a connection issue between two network nodes. However, we may get a few details from the ICMP error codes to troubleshoot the issue. Here, we check some common ping error codes and the solution.

Ping Request Timed Out is one of the common ICMP error messages one sees while pinging a destination device.

This article explains why you see a Request Timed Out reply as a response to your ping and the solution.

It is a detailed article, so we have divided it into three parts.

What is the Ping Request Timed Out Error?

What are the reasons for getting a Request Timed Out Error?

How to Solve the Ping Request Timed Out Error?

Let us answer each question in detail.

What is a Ping Request Timed Out Error?

Request Timed Out error message says your computer had been expecting a reply for some time but received none.

Your computer generates this error message.

I will explain the concept with an example. Suppose you ping www.CoreNetworkZ.com from your computer.

Your computer sends ping packets to www.CoreNetworkZ.com and waits for replies.

It does not receive replies from the www.CoreNetworkZ.com server.

So, your computer shows a Request Timed Out to inform you about it.

It is the simplest explanation for this message.

Request Timed Out means no valid replies from the destination host.

Now, we are going to the second part of the tutorial. Let us check why we get the Request Timed Out while pinging a remote address.

Possible Reasons to Get the Ping Request Timed Out Error Message

Incorrect Network Adapter or Firewall Settings on your PC.

The remote host might be down.

There might not be a route back to your computer.

The firewall installed on the destination host may be blocking your ICMP packets.

Your device did not have an Internet connection while receiving replies.

Let us check how to troubleshoot the ICMP Echo Reply Request Timed Out and how to resolve it.

How to Fix the Ping Error Request Timed Out?

Ping Another address from your computer

You should check whether you can ping any other address from your computer. You can check it by pinging another website or Google DNS address from your computer.

Open Command Prompt.

Type ping www.corenetworkz.com and press enter key. Check for the result.

If you cannot ping other websites, the problem is with your PC.

If it fails, go to the next step in this troubleshooting guide.

Ping the Localhost

Type cmd on Windows search (Press Windows and S keys together to open Windows 11 Search).

Open the Command Prompt. Type ping 127.0.0.1 and press the enter key.

Check whether you get a valid reply.

If you do not get proper replies from the Localhost, the network adapter settings are corrupt, or the firewall is blocking the replies.

127.0.0.1 is the Localhost IP address.

You can fix it by following the instructions below.

Open Windows 11 Search and type Command Prompt. Now, click the option Open as an Administrator.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press the Enter key.

Type netsh winsock reset and press the Enter key.

Type netsh int ip reset and press the Enter key.

Type netsh int ipv6 reset and press the Enter key.

Type netsh int ipv4 reset and press the Enter key.

Reboot your computer.

Now, Ping a website and check whether you get replies. If not, go to the next step.

Turn Off the Firewall and Check for the Issue

An aggressive firewall on your computer can prevent it from receiving ICMP Echo replies to your ping.

If the firewall blocks the replies, your computer will show a Request Timed Out message on the command prompt.

Before the introduction of the Google AdSense program, it was not so easy to earn from a website without getting direct ads from sponsors.

Until then, earning from websites had been difficult for a small Webmaster.

Only Big Guns enjoyed the benefits of getting direct ads from potential clients.

The introduction of AdSense proved even small Webmasters and Bloggers can earn a decent amount of money from their online presence and showed them a new career.

Does Google AdSense suit every website?

But how can a blogger or webmaster determine if Google AdSense is the right program for their website to earn money?

They should get a rough idea of how much money they can get from the AdSense program.

We can calculate the average daily AdSense income by analyzing the daily traffic.

In this article, you can get a rough idea of possible AdSense income from a website by calculating the amount of traffic it gets per day.

This tutorial calculates the required daily website page views to earn $100 from Google AdSense.

Let's Check the Minimum Traffic Required to Earn $100 Per Day from Google AdSense

The simple calculation below will give you an idea of the daily web traffic required to earn $100.

Here, we assume the website (or blog) gets quality traffic (traffic from Search Engines) and advertisements units are at the correct positions.

The number of visitors is not equal to the number of page views.

A single visitor can create multiple page views. So, we consider the total page views a more relevant factor (AdSense also pays for impressions).

So, let us calculate the minimum page views required to earn 100 dollars from a blog in a day.

Traffic Required To Make $100/day

Here we go.

Our target is $100 per day.

Average CTR = 1.5% ( is the normal CTR for a website).

CTR ( Click-Through Rate ) = (Clicks / AdSense Impressions) X 100

Average CPC = $0.2 (Depends on many factors. { The medium of different CPCs from different countries and possible CPM revenues} ).

CPC = Cost Per Click

Page Impressions = 1.5 X { Unique Visitors (Traffic) } -----> We assume an ordinary visitor visits 1.5 pages on a website.

CPM means Cost Per 1000 Impressions.

AdSense occasionally shows CPM ads. CPM ad units generate income from impressions.

Web Traffic Source Country

We assume this website receives mixed traffic from various countries.

The Formula to Find Potential Google AdSense Income From a Blog

Here, we check the potential AdSense income from a blog. So to find the required traffic to earn $100, the formula is:

Clicks * CPC =Income

Where clicks = CTR * Page Impressions --->Where CTR is in percentage.

Here Clicks = 100/ 0.2

= 500

CTR = [Clicks /Page Impressions] * 100

1.5 = [500/ Page Views ]* 100

=> Page Views = (500 * 100 )/ 1.5

=> Page Views = 50000 / 1.5

=> Page Views = 33333.33

To earn $100 per day from Google AdSense with CTR 1.5 and CPC 0.2, we need 33333 Page views. In our assumption, Page Views is the multiple of 1.5 * Visits (traffic).

By the term web traffic, we consider the number of unique visitors.

So

Traffic = Page Views / Pages visited by unique visitor

= 33333 / 1.5

= 22222

So, the required traffic to our website to earn $100 per day is 22222 unique visits.

PS: It is my calculation based on my webmaster experience, and it does not ensure that 33333 page views will get you $100 from Google Adsense. To acquire more income from AdSense, the webmaster must apply different strategies to improve the CTR and use more high-paying keywords to increase CPC.

Microsoft Bing is a popular Search engine and has the potential to bring traffic to your website.

So, we must inform Bing about the latest changes on your websites and blogs.

Bing provides different options to inform them of the recent changes on our websites.

Bing no longer accepts sitemap pinging.

<strike>One of the most impressive methods is the direct ping method. You can submit and ping your website sitemap to Bing without logging into the Webmaster tools account. It takes less than ten seconds to ping your website sitemap to let Bing know the recent changes on your website. It will help Bing Spiders (MSNBot) crawl your website and index the changes soon.</strike>

Blogging is one of the new-generation jobs gaining popularity among youngsters in India.

In earlier days, blog writing was considered a hobby. But now it has become a profession to earn a decent monthly income.

In this article, we are checking whether blog writing can be considered an alternative to boring 9 to 6 jobs in India or whether it does not provide enough money to cover all daily expenses.

India has many successful bloggers now.

In addition, we check how much a blog publisher can earn per month from blogs that are mainly getting traffic from developing countries like India and Bangladesh.

How Much Income an AdSense Publisher Can Earn From Indian Web Traffic?

How much does Google Adsense pay per click in India? Let us consider a scenario.
In this scenario, we consider a blog with Indian traffic. As we know, Google AdSense does not pay very well for clicks generated by Indian visitors.

Indians spend less money due to the relatively lower cost of living in India.

The Lower cost of living allows Indian people to spend less money.

Another reason for not having high revenue for clicks by Indian visitors is due to the lesser online purchasing power of the Indian visitors compared to developed country visitors.

Except for our younger generation, a large bulk of mature Indians are not comfortable with online purchasing. This factor also reduces the overall online purchase power of Indian visitors.

How to Calculate - Cost Per Click?

How much does Google Adsense pay per click in India?

According to my analysis, the AdSense Page RPM of Indian traffic is less than $1 in most cases.

Page RPM stands for average revenue generated from 1000 page impressions.

When we consider the Page RPM of US traffic, it is about $10 in the same niche. The spending amount of Google AdWords marketers in the US market is ten times the same in the Indian market.

It tells 1000 visitors from India is almost equal to 100 US visitors in the case of AdSense earning potential in the same niche.

Calculating The Average AdSense Monthly Income Of an Indian Blogger

Let us calculate the approximate earning potential of a website that receives 80000 page views from India. We assume the website uses the maximum potential to earn from AdSense (like optimal ad placement, decent theme, etc.).

As I told you before, the average Page RPM of Indian visitors is less than $1. We consider it $0.67 (an average Page RPM of a technology blog from developing country visitors). So, our calculation begins with these inputs.

(80000/1000) * 0.67 = $53.6

How Much Money an Indian Blogger Can Earn in a Month?

This question is entirely different. Do you know why? Indian blogs don't need to get only Indian traffic.

It is possible to get visitors from developed countries and other developing countries to a blog belonging to an Indian publisher. If we calculate the average AdSense earnings of an Indian blogger, we need to have more traffic details.

Unlimited Comments Blogger Post

For example, consider an Indian recipe blog. It is possible that many people from Western countries are interested in learning about Indian food, and they may read this blog.

Another example is an Ayurveda blog that discusses herbal medicines for lifestyle diseases and Yoga learning.

To calculate the average monthly earnings of an Indian blog that receives traffic from all over the world, click the link below.

How To Increase AdSense Earnings Per Month Of an Indian Blog?

Niche selection is the key to increasing the AdSense earnings per month of Indian blog writers. Pick a topic that has a large number of advertisers.

If the number of advertisers is high, the competition will be higher.

So, the CPC (Cost Per Click) will be higher.

It leads to higher bidding in Google AdWords.
A blog that discusses lifestyle diseases will generate more revenue per click than a recipe website.

If an Indian blogger writes about topics that interest people from the USA and European countries, that blog will get a large audience from those countries. It will hike the average Page RPM of the blog.

Topics with USA and European audience is necessary to get a decent monthly earning from Google AdSense.

Another strategy to increase monthly earnings from a website is to increase the number of clicks on AdSense ads displayed. Better placement of Google AdSense ads on blogs from India increases the chances of getting more clicks and a hike in monthly income.

Always try to increase the number of page views. By drawing more visitors, your website will generate more income from advertisements.

Have you ever witnessed an automatic shutdown of your laptop while working?

These two are the common symptoms of computer overheating issues.

Overheating will result in an unexpected rebooting of a computer.

This article discusses the reasons, symptoms, and fixes for computer overheating issues.

Reasons for Computer Overheating

It is not uncommon to have these heat issues on a PC. There are many reasons, but some of the most common causes are listed below.

CPU fan failed to work

The cabinet's internal heat will rise if the CPU fan fails. If your computer shows overheating issues, one of the reasons is the faulty CPU fan.

Heat sink issue

The heat sink is a heat exchanger that keeps the processor and GPU cool. Over time, the heat sink will lose its capacity to cool the processor and GPU.

Check the heat sink if your computer or laptop shows an overheating problem.

Dust inside the cabinet

The dust inside the cabinet can indirectly increase the temperature inside the cabinet. It can reduce the speed and functionality of your computer fan.

The flow of hot air from the cabinet is blocked

If anything blocks the airflow from your PC /Laptop, it will result in overheating.

Make sure nothing blocks the hot air coming from the computer. It is necessary to prevent a computer overheating problem.

PC Overclocking

Overclocking will result in producing more heat than the original processor settings.

Running a Heavy Application

Running an application that needs more processing power than your PC will result in overheating.

We have covered the common reasons for computer overheating problems.

Let us check how to stop your computer from overheating when playing heavy applications like games.

Stop Computer From Overheating

Make sure the airflow from your laptop/PC is not disturbed.

Clean the dust from your computer cabinet.

Check the heat sink and change the thermal paste if necessary.

Ensure your computer has the required GPU to play heavy games to stop overheating.

Check the working of the CPU fan and change it if it is not working correctly.

Do not run too many applications together to prevent CPU overheating.

Run a reputed AntiVirus to scan for any possible resource-hungry malware applications.

Let us check the common signs of a CPU overheating and keep the computer system cool.

Signs of CPU Overheating

Overheating will result in general slowness of your computer system.

Another symptom of overheating is the heavy fan noise from the CPU.

Automatic computer shutdown and rebooting are signs of CPU overheating.

How I Detected Overheating Issue On My Computer?

I had been facing overheating issues on my PC for a week till yesterday. Whenever I started heavy applications, the computer would shut down automatically without warning.

After rebooting the PC, a message showed the previous shutdown was due to processor overheating.

Light applications like Firefox and Microsoft Edge work fine.

Maybe your laptop tells you to add extra RAM modules to improve the system's performance.

If you feel an extra RAM module can speed up your Windows 11 computer, try the tip I share in this tutorial.

This tutorial explains converting a USB pen drive into a RAM Module.

Windows 11 and 10 devices can convert a USB Flash memory unit into Virtual RAM.

So, without investing in a new RAM Unit, you can fix the lagging issues with a simple USB Pen Drive.

Have you ever experienced your computer display going black and back within a few seconds?

Soon your Operating System (Windows or Linux ) shows an error message.

The error message must be similar to the one quoted below.

Display Driver Stopped Responding and has Recovered.

I faced it on many computers for a while. My latest Windows 11 Dell laptop and old Windows 7 HP netbook showed this error.

I saw this problem ( the first time ) on my Windows 7 HP netbook thirteen years back and saved the screenshot for my studies.

As you can see, it has extra details too.

Display Driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows (R) stopped responding and has recovered.

Yesterday I experienced the same on my brand new Windows 11 Dell laptop too.

The Laptop screen turned off automatically for a few seconds. It recovered soon with the message: Display Driver Stopped Responding and has Recovered.

Let us check why the display driver stopped working and then recover.

Why Does the PC Screen Turn Off With Display Driver Error?

While running high-end games or applications (like Photoshop), the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) strains too much and may not respond for a while.

TDR restarts Display Driver to Avoid the Complete system rebooting.

It results in the blackening of the Windows laptop display.

Reasons For Display Driver Stopped Responding

The following reasons can result in Display Driver Stopped Responding and Recovered error on Windows 11 and 10 computers.

Corrupted or Outdated Display Driver

The applications currently running are too much for the GPU.

Corrupted GPU

We discussed the reasons for getting the display driver stopped responding error. We also checked why Windows 11 shut down the computer monitor for a few seconds due to the display driver failure.

Now we are going to the final question.

How to Fix Display Driver Stopped Responding and Recovered Error?

I have been using an Acer Aspire Laptop for one year, and a critical problem I was experiencing was its occasional freezing.

I did not change any software or hardware configuration since I purchased it.

Due to its random freezes, I could not rely on this Acer Aspire Laptop for my work presentations and coding.

This Acer laptop model runs on Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

The Problem I Faced With The Acer Laptop

It gets stuck in the middle of a work, and the mouse and keyboard stop responding. Even the keyboard combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] doesn't work.

The only key works is the power button.

I need to press the power button to restart the device.

When I searched the Internet, I was not alone in this problem. Many people complain about the random freezing issues with Acer Aspire laptops.

I fixed the random freezing issue on my Acer laptop.

Let me share the troubleshooting steps on Acer Aspire Laptop to find the reasons for its sudden hanging and the fix.

Why Does Acer Aspire Laptops Freeze Randomly?

I could not find a straight answer to this question. Some users report their Acer laptop freeze while charging and cannot unfreeze using a keyboard or mouse.

Some users face this problem only when running high-end applications like computer games and Photoshop.

In my analysis, my Acer Aspire Laptop freezing connected with Windows updates.

Another chance is the use of the Google Chrome browser. While opening more tabs on Chrome, I noticed the CPU usage touches 100%.

With 100 percent CPU usage, we can expect overheating issues.

Overheat will freeze any laptops.

Each Acer Aspire Laptop must have a different reason for the unexpected hanging.

If you are experiencing frequent unexplained system crashes on your Acer Aspire Laptop, I suggest you go through the troubleshooting guide below.

Tips to boost the Alexa rank of your website are listed below.

How to Manipulate Alexa Ranking Of Your Website To Get A Better Rank?

This ranking system is not accurate, and we can manipulate it. The steps below will help you to decrease(lower the better) the current Alexa rank of your blog.

Install the Alexa Toolbar on your browser and visit your website often.

Tell your blog readers and friends to install this toolbar on their web browsers and visit your domain often.

Target the audience who are familiar with this ranking system. There is no wonder why webmaster blogs and SEO websites have better ranks. Add more pages to attract bloggers with the Alexa toolbar.

Add an Alexa widget to your blog. There is nowhere I found if they use Widgets to gather traffic information on a webpage. However, I encourage you to add this widget to your site.

Third-party services offer help to improve the Alexa rank of your websites. Be careful while choosing a service to improve the Alexa rank of your website. Most of the page views they provided might be using bots. It may create issues for Adsense installed on your website.

Use the third-party improver system wisely and carefully. Bots traffic may boost your ranking, but that risks your Adsense account. So read reviews about these boosters and decide to choose their service wisely.

To learn the effect of traffic and Adsense, click the link below.

Cox Communications is USA's one of the leading cable Internet service providers. Cox cable broadband provides fast Internet and streaming TV services for its customers.

Though they provide reliable connectivity, some users complain of issues with opening ports to activate online services.

Some customers feel Cox disabled some ports intentionally on their modems to control the upstream bandwidth usage.

We can overcome it by manually opening Cox modem ports.

This tutorial teaches you how to perform Port forwarding on a Cox modem.

Why Does Cox Block Internet Ports?

According to Cox's technical support, they block some Internet ports to protect their customers against common worms and dangerous online services.

Another reason for Blocking Internet Ports is to limit upstream bandwidth usage by Cox.

To see the list of Internet ports disabled, visit the link below.

Why Do I Need to Open Ports In Cox Modem?

By default, Cox blocked some ports, which may allow intruders to attack the customers. For example, users with Cox Panoramic WiFi routers experience issues with forwarding a port.

However, users may need to open some specific ports to run applications like Online Games and torrents on their computers.

For example, torrent applications use Internet port range 6881-6889 to download and upload torrent files.

If Cox blocks this Port Range for your connection, you cannot run torrents on your computer. Your computer will not upload or download files by torrent applications using Cox cable broadband.

If the Internet Port number used by your favorite Online Game belongs to the list of blocked port numbers, you won't be able to play it using the Cox cable Internet connection.

In such situations, your only option is to perform a Port Forwarding.

Team CoreNetworkZ explained various ICMP error messages in this blog.

Today we discuss one of the ICMP error replies when we ping a remote device from our computers, Destination Port Unreachable message.

You will learn the meaning and solution for this ICMP Port Unreachable reply.

Let us first check when we get this ICMP Reply Destination Port Unreachable.

We will get this error while pinging a remote device or server from our PC.

This tutorial discusses the reasons for getting the ICMP error Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable) and explains how to resolve this issue.

At first, we check the meaning of the ICMP Error Reply Destination Port Unreachable.

What Does Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable) Mean?

The Destination Port Unreachable error tells us that the ping packet we sent failed to reach the desired destination and dropped.

Let me explain this with a real-world example. When someone pings a remote host, the ping packets will travel from his device to the destination.

Ping packets will reach the destination gateway, and the remote router redirects them to the exact host.

If the host is too busy or the device port does not support the type of packets we send, it will result in the reply Destination Port Unreachable.

It tells us the problem lies with the host, and the network route (up to the remote host) works fine.

So, this reply is from the host (not from the remote gateway) and different from the following ICMP replies.

Destination Net Unreachable Error

Destination Host Unreachable Error

Ping Error Reply- Request Timed Out

PING: Transmit failed. General Failure

One of our readers asked whether a Linux system will show the Destination Unreachable ( Port Unreachable) error.

Destination Port Unreachable ICMP reply is independent of the Operating System platform.

Both the Windows and Linux PCs display this ICMP reply.

Now we check why a PC shows Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable) Ping Reply.

Reasons for Getting Destination Port Unreachable Error

The following reasons will cause the ICMP Reply Destination Port Unreachable.

Unaccepted Protocol Type-

One of the main reasons for the Port Unreachable error is sending packets to a remote host without the required protocol to be accepted by the active port of the remote host.

Remote Port is Busy-

If the port is busy while the ping packets reach, the chances of getting a rejection are very high. It may also result in the ICMP reply from the remote host on the sender with the message Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable).

Possible Ban on Sender IP Address

Another reason is the possible ban on the sender IP address configured at the remote host. Remote Port will reject packets sent from a banned address.

Remote Router Firewall Settings Changes Packets Encapsulation

Our study shows the Remote Host Firewall (rarely) causes Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable) error.

To test it, we should ask the remote host admin to turn off the firewall (if you have such a privilege).

Remote Port Might be Damaged

If the remote port is damaged, you may receive a Destination Port Unreachable reply on your computer.

You have learned why your PC shows the Ping Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable) message. Let us check the steps to fix it.

How to Fix Destination Port Unreachable Error?

Troubleshooting the ICMP Port Unreachable error is a bit difficult because the issue lies with the remote device.

This error reply is due to a protocol mismatch or security issues mostly.

If you see the ICMP reply Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable), follow the steps below.

Ping a Different Address

When you see ICMP Destination Unreachable message, ping a different IP address or web URL.

For example, if you receive the ICMP reply Port Unreacbale when you ping https:www.corenetworkz.com, try to ping https://www.google.com.

If you get packet-received messages from the destination, you can verify the source of the problem.

Ping the Address From a Different IP address

Ping packets from a banned IP will result in ICMP Port Unreachable Error.

Ping the Remote IP (or hostname) from a different IP address to verify it.

Disable the Proxy and VPN Services

Turn Off the Proxy and VPN services on your device and ping the remote server again.

Occasionally Proxy networks cause the ICMP Destination Unreacbahle (Port Unreachable) error.

You can resolve it by turning off the VPN.

Check for Protocol Mismatch

ICMP requests do not use a port number, but TCP and UDP packets use port numbers.

Theoretically, a Port Unreachable message comes with UDP and TCP connection failure.

Destination Port Unreachable reply should not be from ICMP echo requests.

Other Important ICMP Replies

During my network engineer career, one of the common ICMP errors I received while troubleshooting connectivity issues was Destination Host Unreachable.

This error was the cause of my Internet connectivity problems most times.

The same can be true for you too.

When you troubleshoot your connectivity problems, the chances of getting this ping error reply are very high.

Once you learn to resolve this error, you can fix most of your Internet connectivity problems. In this tutorial, I will explain everything about this error.

This tutorial has three parts.

The first part of this tutorial explains the meaning of the ICMP reply Destination Host Unreachable.

The second part explains the reasons for the ping reply Destination Host Unreachable.

The third part explains the steps to fix this error message.

So, let us check the meaning of the ping reply Destination Host Unreachable.

What Does Destination Host Unreachable Ping Reply Mean?

Before proceeding to the core of this tutorial, let me explain the meaning of this ping reply.

The Destination Host Unreachable error tells that the ping packets from your computer couldn't find a route to the destination IP address(destination host).

Now you understand the meaning of this ping reply. However, you should ask yourself two questions to learn more.

Who replied to your device with this Destination Host Unreachable message?

Why the ping packets from your computer failed to reach the destination address?

Let me answer the questions one by one. But before I explain the first question, you must learn how the ping operation works.

Let us check how Ping works.

I am pinging my blog by typing ping www.corenetworkz.com on the Command Prompt.

The complete process is below.

My computer sends ICMP Echo Requests to the remote host www.CoreNetworkZ.com.

ICMP Echo Requests travel out of my computer through the network adapter.

Ping packets reach the default gateway. The default gateway is the router in most cases.

The default gateway needs to find a route to the destination address. So, the next step is checking the ARP table and Routing table.

Default Gateway finds a route to the Remote Gateway of the destination IP address.

Remote Gateway receives the packets.

Remote Gateway forwards the ping packets to the remote host (the final destination - server of CoreNetworkZ.com).

The Remote Host (web server of CoreNetworkZ.com) acknowledges by sending ICMP Echo Replies.

Can you tell me the potential sources for a Destination Host Unreachable reply from this ping workflow algorithm?

You can get this reply from two possible sources.

Your Default Gateway

Remote Gateway

How do we know whether the reply comes from the Default Gateway or Remote Gateway?

Well, it is simple.

All you have to do is to analyze the ping reply carefully.

Check the format of the message. It comes in two different forms.

Reply from x.x.x.x Destination Host Unreachable

If you see the following format, check the IP address.

Most of the time, x.x.x.x must be a Remote Gateway address.

Which shows the error message you received is from the Remote Gateway.

Destination Host Unreachable

If you don't see an IP address in the error replies, they came from the Default Gateway.

In a home network, your home router is the Default Gateway.

Both error formats have different reasons. I will explain the reasons in the next part.

Reasons to Get the ICMP Error Destination Host Unreachable

Let us check why your computer displays the message Reply From x.x.x.x Destination Host Unreachable.

Have a look at the list below.

One of the reasons listed below can get you to the ICMP Echo message Destination Host Unreachable.

Your Default Gateway doesn't know the route to the destination IP address.

Packet Routing issues on Remote Gateway.

The destination host might be down.

Loose Connection.

Strict Firewall Settings.

One of the frequent questions I receive from our readers is whether this error is related to Operating Systems ( like Windows and Linux ).

The answer is no.

Analyzing the ICMP Echo Destination Host Unreachable

Let me explain why I received this ICMP Echo Reply by analyzing a live example.

I send ping packets to the global DNS address 4.2.2.2 to troubleshoot the connectivity problem. The screenshot below shows the reply I received.

How to Fix Ping Error Destination Host Unreachable?

If you do not want to go into the complexity of this ICMP Echo Reply, you can follow the instructions below to resolve the Destination Host Unreachable Ping error message.

Turn Off The Firewall

Aggressive firewall settings can interrupt the ICMP Echo Requests and cause the Destination Host Unreachable error.

Turn Off the Firewall to check whether the firewall is the reason for this issue on your computer.

Try to access the Internet after the firewall is Off.

Also, Ping a Web URL and check whether the issue persists. If so, go to the second solution.

Power Cycle The Network

A loose connection in your home network can invite the Destination Host Unreachable ICMP Echo Reply.

Outdated Routing and ARP tables also result in Ping errors.

A proper home network Power Cycle can fix this. Let us check the steps.

Switch off every device in the network.

Disconnect power cables from Modem, PC, and Router.

Disconnect the Ethernet cables from Modem, Computer, and Router.

Reconnect the power and ethernet cables.

Power On the Modem and wait for one minute.

Power On the Router and wait for one minute.

Power On the PC and ping Google to check whether the Destination Host Unreachable error persists.

A proper Power Cycle will fix issues like corrupted ARP and Routing tables and loose connections.

If the issue persists, go to the final solution.

Disable IPv6 and Test the Connectivity

Sometimes devices fall into IP version conflicts. Different operating systems have separate IP version priorities.

Windows 10 prefers IPv6 to IPv4. Linux variants like Ubuntu, Fedora, and Debian prefer IPv6 to IPv4.

However, sometimes devices fail to work with IPv6.

Rarely it results in ICMP error messages. We can check it by turning off the IPv6 on your device.

Let us check how to turn off the IP Version 6 on a Windows 11 computer and test whether it fixes the Destination Host Unreachable issue.

Right-click on the Network Adapter at the system tray.

Click on Open Network & Internet settings.

Click on Change Adapter options.

Right Click on the current connection and click properties.

Uncheck the Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).

Click OK

Reboot your Computer.

Once you reboot your computer, check for the connection.

Destination Net Unreachable is one of the common ICMP error messages you see when you ping a remote IP address as part of a ping test in network troubleshooting.

This tutorial explains the meaning of the ICMP error message Destination Net Unreachable and teaches how to fix it.

The first part of this tutorial explains why you receive Destination Net Unreachable error while pinging a web address. The second part of the tutorial teaches how to solve this error.

Let us check what this error message means.

What is The Meaning of the Ping reply Destination Net Unreachable?

This error message tells the ping request from your computer failed to find a route to the destination network.

Reasons for the ICMP Echo Destination Net Unreachable

The ping packet couldn't find the destination network due to any one of the following reasons.

Packet Routing issue.

The destination network path might be down.

An outdated Routing table on the default gateway without a route to the destination.

Technical Explanation of Destination Net Unreachable Ping Reply

When you ping an IP address from your computer, the ping packet goes to the default gateway.

The default gateway will check the destination address of the ping packet and find a route with the routing table entries.

The default gateway is a router.

The default gateway will send the ping packet to the destination address.

However, if the default gateway does not know the path to the desired network, your computer will get a Destination Net Unreachable message.

Let us examine the screenshot I uploaded below. I send ping packets to the global DNS address 4.2.2.2 from my computer.

However, the process went wrong and received the ping error Destination net unreachable on the command prompt.

Let me explain why I received the reply from the IP address 192.168.42.129 when I sent ping packets to 4.2.2.2.

Which means the default gateway is 192.168.42.129.

The modem failed to find a route to the destination network and replied to my computer with the Destination net unreachable message.

How to Fix the Ping Error Destination Net Unreachable?

I explained the reasons for the ping error Destination Net Unreachable in the first part of this tutorial. Now, let us check how to fix this problem.

I have created a troubleshooting guide for this purpose.

I recommend you follow the steps in the order provided below.

Power Cycle the Network:

A proper power cycle will refresh the routing table entry and fix loose connection problems. Follow the instructions provided below carefully.

Switch off the devices on your network.

Disconnect power cables from Modem and Router.

Disconnect the Ethernet cables from Modem, Computer, and Router.

Reconnect the power and ethernet cables.

Power on the Router and wait till the power light is steady.

Power on the Modem and wait till the power light is steady.

Open Command Prompt and ping a website (for example- ping corenetworkz.com). If you still receive the same ICMP error, follow the next solution.

Delete the Local Hosts Entries

Third-party applications and malicious programs like viruses can rewrite the local host file on your Windows computer.

A faulty entry on the local host file can prevent your Windows PC from accessing the Internet and results in Ping errors.

Let us check how to fix the Destination Net Unreachable error on Windows computers by clearing the local host file.

Go to the location C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.

Right-click on the hosts and open in a Notepad.

Delete the entries and save the file.

Now ping a remote IP address and check for the issue.

Turn Off the Firewall

Security Applications installed on your device can cause the ping error Destination Net Unreachable when you access the Internet over a VPN or Proxy.

Turn off the firewall on your device to check whether the firewall was the reason for the error.

To turn off the inbuilt Firewall on Windows 11 and Windows 10, follow the instructions.

Click on the Windows Start button.

Click Control Panel.

Click Windows Firewall.

Click the Turn Windows Firewall on or off option.

Click the Turn-off Windows Firewall radio buttons (both under the Private network settings and Public network settings) under the Customize Settings.

Click the OK button to save the settings.

ICMP error messages do not depend on the Operating System on your laptop.

You can see the Destination Net Unreachable error messages on Linux and macOS.

I hope this tutorial helped you resolve Destination Net Unreachable ICMP Error on your computer.

Please Check the Name and Try again

Have you ever faced DNS issues on your PC?

If you are not sure, let me explain how to check it. You can check it with a simple ping test.

If your computer faces any DNS-related issues, one of the Ping error codes you may receive while ping to any domain name is Ping request could not find host [Website Name]. Please check the name and try again.

This error message says your computer could not find the domain name because it failed to resolve the hostname into the corresponding IP address.

This DNS issue blocks your computer from accessing any domain names by typing the website addresses on the browser.

Your computer cannot understand a domain name or URL. So, it needs DNS to transfer the URL to the corresponding IP address.

Ping Request Could Not Find Host Google.com

In the below screenshot, you can see I tried to ping Google.com but failed to get a reply from the Google server.

Instead of getting a reply from the host, I received the error message "Ping request could not find host Google.com. Please check the name and try again".

However, it worked when pinged a specific IP address ( I used a Global DNS address).

So the situation is:

The computer is not getting a reply from the domain name.

The computer gets a reply from IP addresses.

So we can confirm the issue is with the DNS server configured on the computer.

To verify it, if you know the IP address of any website, type that IP address on the browser and press enter. The browser will load the same website.

How to Fix Ping Request Could Not Find Host Error?

To resolve the error, follow the steps below.

Flush The Current DNS Details

One solution to fix DNS issues on your computer is to flush the current DNS server address details in it. To do it, follow the steps below.

Press Windows and S keys together to open Search.

Type Command Prompt and open it.

Now try to ping Google.com and check whether you get the error message "Ping request could not find host Google.com. Please check the name and try again".

If the error returns, go to the second solution.

Assign Working DNS Server Addresses

We need to assign the correct DNS addresses to your computer to fix the DNS issues. To do it, follow the steps provided in the link below.
