Wireless Network Connection Doesn't Have Valid IP Configuration

Today morning my laptop was showing issues with connecting to my home WiFi. While checking for the reason, Windows Network Diagnostic showed an error message "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. This laptop was working fine with the same WiFi in last week but today refused to connect to the same. Since there was no proper connection between my router and laptop, Autoconfiguration IP address (APIPA) was assigned to it. This tutorial is based on the troubleshooting steps I have done today to solve the problem. If you ever face this issue, I hope this guide will help you to fix it. This guide is divided into two parts where the first part explains automatic Windows Diagnostics. The second part is for those who couldn't fix the problem using automatic diagnostics.

  1. Run Automatic Windows Network Diagnostic

    Microsoft has an inbuilt tool called 'Windows Network Diagnostic', which can automatically detect and fix most of the connection issues. I suggest you start it before going for any other manual procedure. To start it, follow the steps below.

    • Click on Connection Icon in Taskbar

    • Click on Open Network and Sharing Center


    • Click on the red X mark


      Here Red colored X is situated between network symbol (SysToSys) and Internet icon. It shows the connection between your computer and modem is fine but something is wrong between modem and ISP.

    • Windows starts troubleshooting process and try to fix the issue automatically


    • If the process is a success (if you are lucky), you will see a message box like the one below.


    • Click on Close

  2. Manual Steps to Solve Invalid IP Configuration

    If you are not lucky to see the message, Windows couldn't fix the issue automatically, you may need to perform the following steps.

    1. Reset TCP/IP and Winsock

      • Run Command Prompt as Administrator

      • Type the following commands and press enter
        netsh int ip reset c:\tcp.txt
        netsh winsock reset

      • If they don't work, use the following set of commands
        netsh int ip reset reset.log
        netsh winsock reset catalog

      • Reboot your PC

    2. Remove Saved Wireless Profiles

      Before doing this step, I recommend you to double check if you have the correct wireless key and SSID.

    3. Assign Static IP Address to Your Computer

      The address should be in the same network range of your DHCP server.

    4. Turn Off and Turn On WiFi Adapter

      Right click on the Wireless adapter on Network and Sharing Center. Choose disable and wait for 2 minutes. Once two minutes are over, turn on it back.

    5. Make sure your PC is Not blacklisted by MAC filtering

      If your computer is blocked by the wireless router by blacklisting its MAC address, you will see connection issues. This step you can do only from the router side. I recommend the following tutorials to learn more about it.

Configure Email Client With GoDaddy Webmail

As part of a promotional package, I have received one free email account from GoDaddy while purchasing a domain name from them. Since I have been fed up with remembering a lot of email addresses, I decide to configure the new address with Email Client installed on my laptop. So at least I am sure, I won't miss any important messages. The procedure to setup Email Client with GoDaddy webmail is very simple. However, if you don't understand the terms incoming and outgoing servers, or don't know where to find them, it may be a little bit difficult. If you are one among them, this tutorial can help you. In this tutorial, I used eM Client as my desktop email client to download and store messages coming to my GoDaddy webmail service. You can use the same procedure to configure GoDaddy webmail with other applications like Outlook, exchange etc.


Get POP3 and SMTP Information

First of all, we need to find the incoming server (POP3) and outgoing server (SMTP) with standard port numbers. In most cases, you will be asked by the installer tool to enter these details to establish a connection for downloading emails. To find them follow the steps below.
  1. Login to GoDaddy account
    https://www.godaddy.com

  2. Go to My Account

  3. Click Launch button at Email


  4. Click on the drop-down button near the address and click Email Setup Center


  5. Here we can see the all necessary details required like GoDaddy incoming and outgoing server with port numbers to make the connection between the desktop client application and webmail.




Setup Desktop Email Client With GoDaddy Webmail Service

Since we have all the necessary details to establish the connection, let us go to the desktop application and start the configuration. Connection procedure is similar irrespective of the client applications you use.
  1. Start the Email Client

  2. Create a new account

    Interfaces may look different but the procedure is the same. In eM Client, click New Account button.


  3. Setup the Account

    You can either use Automatic Setup or manual setup. If you choose Automatic Setup, all you have to do is to click Start Now button after entering the email id and password.


  4. Configure manually

    In case the Automatic procedure fails, you should click on Mail and start the manual procedure.


  5. Enter Incoming server address. In my case, it is pop.asia.secureserver.net with port number 110.


    After entering the details, press next.

  6. Enter the outgoing server

    For me, it is smtpout.asia.secureserver.net with port number 80.


    If you are not planning to configure no authentication for outgoing server, check the checkbox. Click next button to continue.

  7. Here you can see whether the values you have entered are correct.


  8. Enter the account details.


    Click the next button to finish the procedure.

Soon after pressing the finish button, messages will be downloaded from the webmail account to your computer. It may take a few minutes to hours depends on the number of messages in your account.


Get a Free License From eM Client and Activate

I am using eM Client as the default email client on my desktop computer. Though it is a paid application, they offer a free license for non-commercial users. If you are not a commercial user, you can get one free license key by following the link below.

Reset GoDaddy Web Hosting Accounts To Solve Multiple Issues

One of my websites was hosted with an ordinary plan from a less popular company but I have bought a new premium hosting from GoDaddy due to the high potential of that site. However, after adding the domain name to the new plan, I have received an error message "This Domain is Already Assigned to an Account" and failed the process. After contacting GoDaddy technical support only I came to know that the previous company I used to host my website is one of their resellers. Unless I have released my domain name from their account, I cannot add it to my current hosting. Remove Primary Domain From Hosting

However, there was another issue. I used SysToSys as the primary domain while configuring the previous web host. To remove a primary domain from Godaddy web host we need to follow a different set of instructions.

Unfortunately, the above steps cannot be completed if you are using their reseller product. It is because a user purchased server space from one of their resellers cannot access the following location gateway.godaddy.com. It is a must step to complete the procedure for those who are having Linux cPanel. So the only option left is to reset the entire host account and Set Up a new one from scratch. That is what I did to remove the primary domain name configured in GoDaddy Reseller host program.


How to Reset and Reconfigure GoDaddy Web Host Accounts

You can do it by following the steps below but it is important to know that you will lose all current configurations you have made.
  1. Sign In using the customer id (or username ) and password provided by the reseller. You can see Sign In option at their home pages.

  2. Go to My Account

  3. Click on Launch button at Hosting


  4. Click on Settings


  5. Now select Reset Account tab and click the button Reset Account


  6. We need to confirm the action by typing reset in the box


  7. We may need to wait for a little to complete the procedure


  8. Now we need to configure it from the beginning and all the web addresses assigned to the past account are released.

I had reset GoDaddy web host one year ago to solve another set of issues. That time I had been experiencing slower server response and a simple reset fixed it. However, it is recommended to take necessary backups (database, uploaded files, etc.. ) before initializing the reset process.

Getting Invalid MAC Address Error Message

For the past week, I have been noticing slower Internet speed on my home computers without any reasons. I am not using any torrents or other bandwidth consuming tools on any of the PCs but recently one representative from my ISP informed me about over bandwidth usage. I inquired her about my reduced bandwidth but she said everything from their side was working perfectly. Since the ISP side is working perfectly, the problem must be from our end. Perhaps some other user is using our wireless anonymously to access the Internet and may be downloading large files. Airtel is my Internet Service Provider and my experience with them is so far good. I have been getting almost the same speed they offered and it is the time to instigate the culprit who uses my home WiFi. Airtel supplied D-Link DSL 2730U modem and it doesn't have any feature to find the log of connected devices. So I have decided to change the current WiFi password and allow only my home computers and laptop to join the WiFi by using MAC Restriction. However, soon I have noticed a new error message while adding MAC addresses to the allowed devices list. MAC address "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX" is invalid MAC address is the error message which prevented me from adding.

This article discusses the common reasons for rejecting a Physical number by a router while configuring a Media Access Control filter.

Common Reasons For Invalid MAC
  • If you are using a different format to enter Media Access Control number other than the one which is supported by the device, you will receive the invalid MAC alert. Once you click on the OK button, the entries you entered will be deleted automatically. So the first step you have to do, if you are facing this situation, is to check the correct format which is supported by the device. Certain devices use ":" to separate the HEXA decimals but some devices use "-". Try different format and use the one which is approved. I have used a hyphen instead of a colon to separate the numbers because my computer showed the MAC number in xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx format. A simple mistake but D-link rejected my entries.

I have changed the format from hyphen to colon. After that change, D-Link showed no error.

Today I saw one strange redirection issue with CoreNetworkZ.com, where its bare address is not opening or redirecting to the WWW version. At first, I thought it might be an issue with my Internet Service Provider, but their support team said that everything was working fine at their side. My next move was to check the Blogger settings. However, detailed research on popular webmaster forums revealed that the issue was not with Blogger custom domain name settings.

As a last resort, I contacted the live chat support of my domain registrar.

I have registered https://www.CoreNetworkZ.com with NameCheap, one of my first choice domain name registrars.

While troubleshooting the issue with the support person, he informed me that it was due to DDoS attack against their default DNS server and they might want a little bit time to resolve it.

He suggested me to change the current DNS server I selected for my web address to backup DNS System.

Though changing the current DNS server may help to escape from DDoS attack, it can take up to 24 hours to see the result.

You can change the current NameCheap DNS Server with a better performing one for your website.

To change the current DNS settings of your NameCheap domain name, follow the instructions provided below.

  2. Go to Manage Domains from 'My Account'

  3. Click on Switch to DNS System v1 under General in the left-hand side

Solve GoDaddy Error: There is a Problem With the Information You Provided

GoDaddy is one of my favorite domain name registrars and I have been using their service for the past five years. They offer low-cost domain name registration for the first year with a rate not many other registrars cannot offer. I have been using this privilege ( like 108 Indian rupees for a .com domain ) to register names for my projects but recently I faced an issue while placing the order. The system is not letting me complete the transaction. At first, I thought it is a common bug but sooner I discovered the true nature of it. Whenever I use GoDaddy promotion code to cut down the price, the system shows error. Whenever I click on Place Your Order button, it responded with the following message.

So many thoughts went through my mind after seeing this alert. I checked this situation without using their promotional code and that time everything was fine. Solution

The above-mentioned error code appears only when a user uses coupon code to cut down the price of the product he purchased. It is because the coupon code he used is applicable only for USA and Canada customers. So if you are from a different country, you are not authorized to use them. However, GoDaddy doesn't discriminate people on the base of their logon IP location. So if one user changed his default currency from his local currency to US or Canadian Dollar, this error message will not appear. This facility only works for those users, whose cards support payment in US or Canadian Dollar. I have changed my default currency from Indian Rupee to USA Dollar and the error message disappeared.

Airtel DSL Broadband Connection Optimization

Airtel provides a high-speed broadband connection for users with attractive plans. We have been using it for our office for the past two years without having any problems. They provide an almost steady connection by keeping the promised data transfer speed. Their unlimited packages come with a limited number of free calls and for some plans, they offer a free DSL wireless modem. D-Link DSL -2730U modem is installed by them in our office. This tutorial explains how to setup Airtel broadband modem with WiFi feature and share Internet connection and WiFi among multiple computers. Next portion of this tutorial covers how to make customizations for your connection in case of speed, security etc.

Configure Internet On Airtel Broadband Modem
  1. Connect LAN port of modem to the computer using an Ethernet cable

  2. Type 192.168.1.1 on the address bar of the browser and press enter.

  3. Enter the default login username and password for Airtel modem

    • Username : admin
    • Password : admin

  4. Click on Advanced Setup

    Now we can configure airtel DSL ATM Interface with right VPI and VCI values.

    • VPI : 0

    • Select EoA as DSL Link Type because we are configuring airtel modem in PPPoE


    • Select Default mode as the connection mode


    • Encapsulation Mode : LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING

    Choose strict priority for IP QoS Scheduler Algorithm. After entering all the details provided above, click the Apply button.

  7. Reboot

    Once the configuration is completed, you should click on reboot link from the left-hand side menu under Management.


    Click reboot button.

Setup Wireless & Security

Once the Internet connection is configured, we need to set up wireless and wireless security on Airtel modem. Follow the steps below to enable WiFi and security.
  1. Log in to the setup page

  2. Go to Wireless

    To enable WiFi, you must select "Enable Wireless" checkbox. You can create a custom name for Airtel WiFi network by deleting the current entry at SSID and type the name you want. It will be the name of the WiFi network.


    • Restrict Number of WiFi Clients using Max Clients entry

    • Make your Wireless network invisible by selecting Hide Access Point

    • Create Guest Accounts by enabling Guest Access Points

    Don't forget to save the changes using the Save button at the bottom of the page.

  3. Enable Wireless Security

    1. Go to Security page under Wireless


    2. Select the Wireless profile from SSID

    3. Select Network Authentication

      You can choose open network (no security), WEP (less secure), WPA Personal and WPA Enterprise from Network Authentication. I am using WPA-Personal to secure office wireless network. Save the changes once it is completed.


  4. MAC Filtering

    You can block a specific device from joining your Wireless network by banning the MAC address of that device. For that, you must enable MAC filtering.

    1. Go to MAC Filter under Wireless


    2. Select MAC Restrict Mode

      1. To disable a MAC address from joining your network, you may select Deny mode and enter it's MAC address

      2. If you want to allow selected devices only to join your network, you may choose to allow and enter the MAC address of the devices which are allowed to access your Wifi

  1. Change Modem Password

    1. Click on Management

    3. Types Of Users

      Airtel supplied D-Link DSL-2730U model as the modem for my office. This device supports three types of users. They are

      1. admin: User with full privilege who can change any previous configurations made

      2. Support: This login id is provided to airtel technicians. Those authorized technicians will examine and run diagnosis test while your Internet connection experiences issues. This ID too can update device software along with admin id.

      3. User: Though user with this ID can view settings and update software, he cannot change any previous configurations.

    4. Change Default Password

      Type the username (from the three) and old password first and then type the new password. After confirming the new password, click the Apply button.

  2. Change Local Network Settings

    The default login IP address of airtel modem is 192.168.1.1 but we can change it to a different one by following the procedure explained below.

    1. Click Advanced Setup

    2. Click on LAN

      Here we can change the default login IP of the device by changing the IP address specified at "IP Address". If you want to enable IGMP snooping, you must check the checkbox at "Enable IGMP Snooping". The same window gives options to either turn on or disables Firewall protection. If you don't want to share the Internet with multiple computers, simply select "Disable DHCP Server" radio button.


      After making necessary changes, don't forget to click the Save button at the bottom of the window.

  3. Block Certain Websites

    By using the feature Parental Control, we can block any websites for users sharing broadband. This feature is configured on the MAC address of the browser's laptop. to set up this feature to block unwanted websites on Airtel broadband connection, follow the steps below.

    1. Click On Advanced Setup

    2. Click on Parental Control


    3. Click Add button

      Here you can enter the restrictions by following the Parental Control rules.


  4. Firmware Upgrade

    It is necessary to update the current firmware of the Airtel modem with the latest release. To perform a firmware upgrade, follow the steps below.

    1. Download Firmware

      To download the latest firmware of any models of airtel modems, visit the link below. Save the downloaded file on your desktop. It is important to download the firmware for the right model.

      Right now they have listed firmware for Beetel Wi-Fi DSL CPE 450-TC1 and CPE 450-BX1 with Binatone Wi-Fi DSL CPE Model DT845W. If you cannot find firmware for your model, you may search vendor website.

    3. Click on Management on the left side menu

    4. Click on Update Software

    5. Click on Choose file button to select the downloaded firmware


    6. Once the downloaded file is selected, click the "Update Software" button.

    7. Once the process is finished, the modem will restart. You need to wait at least one minute.

Change Default GoDaddy Email MX Records With Third Party Services

GoDaddy is one of the most popular web hosting companies who offer different services like domain name registration, web hosting, website builder, email server etc. This tutorial explains how to set a third party electronic mail server with a domain name registered via GoDaddy. We may choose third-party services due to various reasons like cost difference, privacy, better service etc. Today I have configured Hushmail Business Email for one of my friends where his domain name is registered through GoDaddy. Though this tutorial is about configuring Hushmail, you can use the same procedure for other email service providers like ProtonMail, Google APP for business, ShazzleMail etc with GoDaddy domain. Now let us check how to configure third-party email services with Godaddy web hosting.

Change Default GoDaddy Email Service
  1. Login

    Sign in to GoDaddy account using username and password. You can also use customer id instead of username.

  2. Go to My Account (Domain Control Panel)

  3. Click on Launch button near Domains

  4. Click on the domain name for which you want to set up third-party service.

  5. Click on DNS Zone File

    Let us check how to create a new MX record if there is nothing configured already.

  6. Create New MX Record on GoDaddy Account

    You may click delete button near the MX record to remove all current values set. Now to create a new set of values, follow the procedure below.

    • Click on Add button and choose MX Record

    • Now on Add Zone Record window enter the following details.

      1. Host : @

      2. Points to: (name server address provided by the email service provider)

      3. TTL: 1 hour or the default

      4. Priority: 10 (or the value specified by them)

    • We need to create one more record (total 2)and click Add one more and enter the second name server details.

    • Click on Save Changes

    It may take time to set the new MX record. You can use the edit button and change the current MX record instead of deleting them.

  7. Edit Current MX Record

    To setup email service from other companies, you have to edit the current MX (Mail Exchanger) settings. We can add two values here. Delete the current values and enter the MX records send from your email provider. If you have any doubts regarding this step, I recommend you to carefully look at the pictures shown below.

    • Click Edit button under actions

    • Keep @ at the host and enter the name of the mail server under 'Points to'. Enter the same priority provided by the service provider. It is important to note that the name server with the lowest number as priority will be tried first. Look at the image below to get more information regarding it.
