Yesterday, one of my friends, Luke Abraham, visited me to request that I fix an Internet connectivity problem on his Dell laptop. It would work with a wireless connection, but could not go online with an Ethernet cable.
As the first step, I connected his laptop to the modem with an Ethernet cable. Then I tried to ping www.CoreNetworkZ.com. It showed the following ICMP error code.
Ping: transmit failed, error code 31
I fixed the problem and decided to write a tutorial for readers of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions explaining this ICMP error message.
What is Ping: Transmit Failed, Error Code 31?
Let me tell one critical point first. It is a different error from (the one I explained in the previous tutorial), 'Ping Transmit Failed General Failure'.
'Ping: transmit failed, error code 31', indicates the computer has a corrupted Ethernet adapter driver.
Due to the corrupted Ethernet adapter driver software, the PC cannot go online with a wired connection. I hope you understand why a computer shows 'Ping: transmit failed, error code 31'.
How To Fix the Ping: Transmit Failed, Error Code 31?
Let me explain how to resolve this issue in this section.
To resolve ping error code 31, uninstall the Ethernet adapter driver installed on your computer and reboot the system. After rebooting, reinstall the adapter driver.
You can uninstall the Ethernet adapter driver from the Device Manager. Type Device Manager on Windows Search and open it.
Right-click the Ethernet adapter from the list. Click the Uninstall option. After uninstalling the Ethernet driver, I recommend you reboot the PC/Laptop.

I suggest downloading the latest driver version from the Ethernet adapter manufacturer's website. I explained this procedure in one previous tutorial published by CoreNetworkZ titled Ping Request Tiemd Out Error.
I fixed the 'Ping: transmission failed, error code 31' on Luke's laptop after reinstalling the Ethernet card driver.
In rare cases, Firewall Apps on a computer can cause this error. One of the regular readers of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions, Sophia Jonathan, said, "Thank you, Alex, for this wonderful guide. I fixed the ping error 31 by turning off the Windows firewall."
So, I recommend turning off the firewall installed as the second solution to fix the ping transmission failed error 31.
Ashish Mudgal, a senior network engineer at CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions, mentioned a corrupted TCP/IP suite as the third reason for 'Ping: Transmit Failed, Error Code 31'.
The solution is to uninstall and reinstall the TCP/IP suite. I suggest you follow the instructions provided in my previous tutorial by visiting this link.
