A List of The Best Free LAN Messengers & Download Links

Updated by: Alex George on May 22, 2025

Welcome to the System Admin training tutorials section by CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions. Today, I share a list of the most popular LAN Instant Messengers. I will also explain their features.

Abhishek Banerji, a System Admin trainee, asked, "What is the best way to communicate between two devices in a single LNA?"

He asked this question in one of my training sessions. My recommendation is LAN messengers.

Most of them do not require a server and are easy to install. Some even require no installation.

Just unzip and run the application.

The Uses Of a Local Network Messenger

These messengers allow users to send pictures, text messages, and even large files effortlessly. Since LAN messenger data transfer is in a single Local Area Network, no one outside the network can access or participate in the communication, making it secure.

It makes LAN messengers most suitable for small offices.

This article introduces a list of the best free LAN messengers available. I will also share the download links.

Which Are The Most Popular LAN Messengers?

Sandhya Sharma, one of the readers of CoreNetworkZ, asked this question. She started her career as a System Admin for a Delhi-based company.

I will share five popular LAN Instant Messengers here. I will also explain how to download them into your PC.

  1. IP Messenger

Let me start with the messenger I use on the office LAN of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions. IP Messenger is one of the most popular LAN messengers that supports multiple platforms.

Using this tool, we can chat, transfer files between computers in a Local Area Network, capture desktops, and more.

Anagha Shivakumar, a Mumbai-based Engineering student, asked, "Hello Alex, can you recommend a free LAN Messenger that supports group chat in a college Lab?"

My recommendation to Anagha is IP Messenger.

I suggest you read one of my previous tutorials based on this tool.

  2. Squiggle

Squiggle is a free LAN Messenger that bridges different Local Area Networks across a WAN. It is also serverless and based on peer-to-peer technology.

Chiara Parpinello, a Microsoft Azure certified Engineer, said, "Alex, it does not support Windows 11." She is right: it works with the older Windows versions.

It does not support the latest Windows versions.

Squiggle supports chat history, spell check, group chat, voice chat, and more. The download link is:

  3. SourceForge LAN Messenger

  4. Hitmaneidos LAN Messenger

Hitmaneidos LAN Messenger performs most of the functions of IM clients, such as file sharing, chatting with people on the same Local Network, private and public chat rooms, and conversation-saving features.
