Two days ago, I purchased a new domain name from GoDaddy within the same account where I have hosting. Adding a domain name to hosting is usually easy when both services are in the same account.
However, I encountered a strange issue when I tried to add this new domain name to my web hosting account.
I couldn't add it and received an error message, "This domain is already assigned to an account." Since it was a brand-new domain (for me), I contacted GoDaddy's technical support for assistance.
Let me share the screenshot of the GoDaddy Hosting error message.

Why Did GoDaddy Show a Hosting Error?
The technical support team informed me a hosting account within their network is pointing to the domain name. However, since it was not my hosting account, someone else had added it to their hosting.
Let me quote the exact words the DoDaddy Technical Support Engineer said. He said, "Your domain name already points to an existing hosting account and cannot point to another web hosting account."
In a nutshell, the domain name is already in use by another account.
How Did They Fix the GoDaddy Domain Hosting Connection Error?
I requested GoDaddy's team to look into the matter. They removed the domain name from the previously associated hosting account. Then, they told me to wait 24 hours before adding it to my hosting.
Yesterday, I successfully added the domain name to my web hosting account. Now, it works perfectly.
This Domain is Already Assigned to a Hosting Account Error
Let me share my views about this GoGaddy hosting connection error. Karthika Balaji, a regular reader of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions, asked, "Hello Alex, what is the possibility of this error message if I choose to use a GoDaddy shared hosting to host my WordPress blog?"
Let me answer Karthika about the possibility of this error. The chances are less. It happens only if you buy a domain name someone else owned previously and choose to buy hosting in the same company he used.
I now feel that I have purchased an expired domain name. That domain name might be using GoDaddy hosting services. The domain name has expired, but the hosting is still active.
If you are facing the same issue—where a domain is already assigned to an account—you can call GoDaddy technical support or use their online support.
If you contact online support (email support), they will respond within three hours.
The link to GoDaddy online support is: https://support.godaddy.com/
If you plan to use GoDaddy telephone support, you can reach them using the following phone number: (480) 505-8877. If you opt for telephone support, you must provide the secret PIN ( you created it when opening the account).
Verification is required to ensure that they are assisting the actual account owner. So, you must keep the secret PIN confidential.
It is their issue. Godaddy must fix it.
ReplyDeleteI too had the same problem. When I called Godaddy, they said wait for few hours and they will resolve the issue. Thanks to the support, now the problem is resolved.
