Welcome to the System Admin training section by CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions. Today, I will share a practical experience by configuring the DWL-G700AP.

DWL-G700AP is a D-Link Access Point.

So, why did I choose DWL-G700AP to give practical experience for our System Admin students?

James George, a final-year B.Tech student, asked this question. He joined our System Admin course last week at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions' Chennai branch.

The answer is simple.

D-Link is one of the leading manufacturers of wireless access points, and the DWL-G700AP was among its most popular models.

What Will You Learn From This Tutorial?

In this article, you will learn how to configure the DWL-G700AP wireless access point in a few simple steps.

DWL-G700AP has no DHCP feature.

Since DWL-G700AP does not have a DHCP server, you need to assign a static IP address to your computer before beginning the configuration. After setting the static IP, connect the DWL-G700AP to your computer using an Ethernet cable.

How to Set Up DWL-G700AP Using the Setup Wizard?

I configured this device in our System Admin classroom to provide practical experience for my students. To configure the DWL-G700AP, follow the steps below:

  1. Assign a Static IP Address to Your Computer

If there is no DHCP server connected to your computer, you must manually assign a static IP address. The IP address should be in the range of 192.168.0.X, where X is any number between 1 and 254, except 50.

Lakshmi Balaji, a CCNA student at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, asked, "Why cannot we use the port number 50?"

The reason is that port number 50 is for the access point only.

  2. Connect Your Computer to the DWL-G700AP

To begin the setup, connect the DWL-G700AP Wireless Access Point to your computer using an Ethernet cable. Then, power on the access point to initiate the configuration process.

  3. Accessing the Configuration Page of D-Link DWL-G700AP

To configure the D-Link DWL-G700AP Wireless Access Point, follow these steps:

Open a Web Browser and enter the IP Address 192.168.0.50.

    Then, press Enter.

The window will ask you to enter the administrator credentials. Use the following default login details:

    • Username: admin

    • Password: (leave blank)

Note:- The default login IP address for the DWL-G700AP is 192.168.0.50.

  4. Run the Setup Wizard on DWL-G700AP

Click the button Run Wizard. It will launch the configuration wizard for the DWL-G700AP.

    Click the Next arrow.

The wizard will guide you through the setup process step by step.

Set a New Password. You will need to create a new password for the access point.

    Enter your desired password.

    Confirm the password.

    Click Next.

Enter the Wireless Network Name (SSID). Specify the SSID of the wireless network you want the DWL-G700AP to extend.

Click Next to Proceed to the wireless security configuration.

  5. Set Up Wireless Encryption

Select the encryption type (e.g., WEP, WPA, WPA2) that matches your wireless router.

Click Next and finalize the wireless security settings.

  6. Restart the Access Point

Click 'Restart' button to apply all settings. After rebooting, the DWL-G700AP will be ready to use on your network.
