Enable Custom Belkin Router Wireless Security (WPA & WEP)

Belkin Wireless router comes with preset WiFi security. That means you don't need to spend your time to enable WiFi encryption on it. Using WiFi protected setup, you can connect all your wireless devices to it by pushing the WPS button. This feature helps us reduce the time required to configure wireless security on a Belkin router. It is more than enough to protect your network from intruders. However, if you want to make custom changes on Wireless security preset, you can follow this tutorial. There are also some technical reports which recommend do not use WPS to setup WiFi security. They find WPS can reduce the protection of WPA encryption. So it is always better to turn off WPS and enable WPA encryption on Belkin WiFi network manually by using the procedure explained in this tutorial.

Manually Enable Wireless Security On Belkin Wireless Router

In case if you want to change the preset encryption with your custom security, follow the steps below.
  1. Login

  2. Click Security under Wireless
    Break Belkin WiFi

    You can select WEP or WPA to secure your Belkin WiFi network.

  3. Enable WEP on Belkin Router

    To select WEP, click on security mode drop menu and select WEP. WEP is of two kinds WEP 64 bit encryption and WEP 128-bit encryption. You can type your Pass Phrase and generate an instant wireless key for your WiFi network.
    Break WEP

    After generating the wireless key, you should save settings by click on Apply changes. Now onwards to log in to your Belkin WiFi network, you need this key.

  4. Enable WPA on Belkin Wireless Router

    WPA is more secure than WEP. To enable WPA on your Belkin router, select WPA from security mode drop-down menu.

    You should enter a pre-shared key to enable WPA security on your Router. Don't forget to save this WPA setting.

Importance to Set WiFi Encryption Manually

WiFi Protected Setup or simply WPS is intended to enable WPA protection for all the devices which are authorized to connect to the network without many troubles. By pressing the WPS button, all the authorized devices will be connected to the network and none of the other unauthorized devices will be able to intrude. However, in reality, it doesn't work. WPS becomes one of the important features which reduced the security of WiFi Protected Access. Right now, security experts don't recommend users to press WPS button to enable WiFi security.
