Manage Cisco DPC2320 Cable Modem

Updated by: Alex George on June 13, 2025

The Cisco DPC2320 is a popular modem supported by many cable internet service providers.

I received multiple support requests from the clients and readers of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions about this device.

So, I write this tutorial to answer their questions. This tutorial explains how to manage the device and configure its various features.

What Is a Cisco DPC2320?

Let me address the first question. It was from Rajesh, a regular reader of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions.

"My former ISP supplied a Cisco DPC2320. I recently switched to a new DSL service provider and attempted to use it. However, their technician informed me that I could not use it. Why?"

It is a wireless residential gateway that functions as a modem and a WiFi router with cable Internet. Rajesh's new ISP is a DSL broadband provider; therefore, they cannot support the Cisco DPC2320.

Cisco DPC2320 supports multiple devices.

If your cable broadband service provider supplies the DPC2320, you can use it to share your broadband connection among multiple computers.

You can follow the same steps to configure and troubleshoot the EPC2320 EuroDOCSIS Residential Gateway. The device includes one Ethernet port and a WPS setup button, allowing you to connect additional devices via WiFi.

Managing Cisco DPC2320

Let me explain how to configure a Cisco DPC2320 with a Cable broadband service. I will also explain how to set up an Internet connection with this device.

  1. Log In

A few readers of CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions asked for the default login IP and password of a Cisco DPC2320.

Johnson, a supermarket owner from London, asked, "How do I log into Cisco DPC2320 modem? A technician from Virgin Media installed this modem in my office without sharing any data."

By default, the DPC2320 login IP address is 192.168.0.1, and there is no default username or password.

Arunima, a housewife from Chennai, asked, "Hello Alex, is there a default login password? If not, can I set one?"

You can set a password under Basic Settings in the Password Settings section.

  2. Set Time

Rahim, a client of our company, asked where he could change the time zone.

    Time Zone

Check the screenshot and follow the same step to change the timezone.

  3. Check Status

Another important feature I recommend you check carefully is 'Status'.
    Name Cisco DPC2320
    Modem Serial Number 267900411
    Cable Modem MAC Address 50:39:55:65:9c:8f
    Hardware Version 1.0
    Receive Power Level -1.8 dBmV
    Transmit Power Level 54.7 dBmV
    Signal to Noise Ratio42.0 dB
    Cable Modem Status Operational
    Vendor Cisco
    Boot Revision 2.3.1_D2R2(S)
  4. Set Up Wireless & Security

To configure wireless settings on the Cisco DPC2320, follow these steps:

    1. Click the Setup tab.

    2. Select Wireless Basic.

I will explain the tips for changing the Cisco modem WiFi name from this window. Do you see an SSID field? Enter your desired wireless network name (Service Set Identifier).

Choose the appropriate wireless channel for your network. Changing the channel may help reduce interference. In this case, I changed the default SSID to CoreNetWorkZ and set the channel to Auto.

    3. Click the Apply button to save your changes.

    4. To configure WiFi security on the Cisco DPC2320 Cable Modem, follow these steps:

      • Click the Setup tab in the top menu.

      • Click Security under Wireless.

      • Change the device name and WPA Pre-Shared Key as needed. If you enable WPA Pre-Shared Key, you must disable WEP. Choose one of the encryption standards: WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA-PSK2, or WPA.

Forgot the Cisco DPC2320 Modem Password?

If you have forgotten the password you set for the Cisco EPC2320 Euro DOCSIS, there is no need to worry. You can still log in to the Cisco DPC2320 cable broadband modem using the IP address:

http://10.1.191.68

One advantage of using this IP address is that it allows you to bypass modem login authentication. When you enter 10.1.191.68 in the address bar, it will not prompt you to enter the username or password you previously set.

This IP address is a backdoor to regain control of this Cisco Gateway model.

Preventing a Phone from Joining Cisco DPC2320 Modem WiFi Connection

Julia, a B.com student, asked, "Hello Alex, my roommate is always downloading movies by joining my WiFi. I cannot hide the password from her. Is there any way to prevent her from joining the wireless?"

The Cisco DPC2320 allows you to block a computer or any device from connecting to the network using IP and MAC filtering.

Block a phone on Cisco WiFi

IP Address Filtering works only with devices that have a static IP. If a device refreshes its current IP, it may bypass this filter.

Cisco DPC2320 MAC Address

MAC Address Filtering is more effective because a MAC address is a built-in hardware identifier. However, there are MAC spoofing services that allow users to change their MAC addresses.

  4. By disabling the Wireless Access Point on Cisco DPC2320 Cable Modem, you are actually disabling the wireless broadcast.

If you disable SSID broadcast, your modem still broadcast wireless but others will not see the name of the wireless network. This option must be in advance wireless settings.
