JioFi Red Light Issue: Causes, Fixes, and Pro Tips

Updated by: Alex George on August 12, 2025

Welcome to the System Admin training tutorials by CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions. Today, I will narrate the experiment we conducted in Chennai IT lab to study and troubleshoot the red light issues of JioFi.

Why We Conducted The Test?

Some of my readers may wonder why an EdTech company conducted a test on JioFi red light issues. Let me explain.

Anoop Sreenivasan, a CCNA student at the Chennai branch of CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, requested an analysis of the causes and solutions for the JioFi red light problem.

He said, "I have been encountering a dreaded red light blinking on JioFi while watching web series or downloading movies. Why is the LED blinking red and disconnecting the Internet?"

To answer his question, Ashish Mudgal, a Senior Network Engineer at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, and I conducted a test on the JioFi device in a controlled lab environment.

Students from our Chennai branch, preparing for various IT Certification Courses, participated in the test.

What Does the Red Light on JioFi Indicate?

Let me begin this section by addressing a question posed by one of our students at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions' Chennai branch.

Adhithya Prabha, a new student preparing for the RHCE examination, asked the reason for a JioFi router showing red lights.

The red light on a JioFi device typically signals poor network connectivity or device malfunction. Depending on the model, it may appear as a blinking red signal indicator or a solid red light.

I believe that answer satisfies our readers about the meaning of JioFi Red lights.

Common Causes of the JioFi Router Red Light Issue

Nidhin Joy, an IT foundation course student at our Chennai branch, asked, "Hello Alex, what are the common causes of this red light problem?"

We published the reason in one of our previous tutorials.

Joshy Roy, a senior executive at Reliance Jio, mentioned the reasons in a previous interview with Hanna, a reporter at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions.

According to him, there are four reasons for the JioFi showing red LED lights. I suggest that my readers refer to the following table for a clearer understanding.

SN Reasons
1 Poor Network Coverage
2 SIM Card Not Detected
3 Corrupted Firmware
4 Device Overheating

I hope the table explained why a JioFi device shows red LED lights.

How to Fix the JioFi Red Light Issue?

Now, let us address the big question: how do we resolve the red light issue?

With input from Joshy Roy, we developed a troubleshooting guide to fix the JioFi red light problem.

  1. Relocate the Device To Fix the Red LED Light Error

Move the JioFi to a location with better signal reception. Ashish recommended placing the JioFi near a window to avoid the red Signal LED lights problem.

I suggest avoiding places near metal surfaces or electronic devices that may interfere with the signal.

This step works with the red light on the JioFi Network Signal LED.

  2. Reinsert the SIM Card

According to Joshy, a practical solution to fix the red light issue is to reinsert the Jio SIM card. He is correct because a loosely inserted SIM card can prevent the device from establishing a network connection.

  3. Updating the JioFi Software

Ashish Mudgal showed in the lab that updating the system software can prevent the JioFi red light error. I recommend my readers visit the following link and read the steps to upgrade JioFi firmware.

  4. Let The Device Cool Down

Our test confirmed that overheating is one of the common causes of the red light problem. So, I recommend my readers switch off the JioFi and let the device cool down.

I hope my readers enjoyed this article, which narrates the experiment we conducted with a JioFi router. Let me know your feedback in the comments section.
