Welcome to the System Admin training tutorials prepared by CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions. Today, I will narrate one experiment conducted in our Network Engineering training center to determine the Internet speed difference between a JioFi and a Jio SIM on a Mobile Phone.

Why Did We Conduct the Speed Test?

In today's world, reliable internet access is no longer a luxury; it is a necessity. JioFi is a popular Mobile Internet router that many of my students use for our online classes.

During one class, Arathi Bino, a CCNA student, asked, Is JioFi faster than using a Jio SIM directly in a smartphone?

I am sure many JioFi users have wondered the same. So, rather than blindly trusting the official claims, we decided to test the speed in a controlled environment.

Phone With a Jio SIM Vs JioFi Speed Test

Ashish Mudgal, a senior Network Engineer at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, and I led the experiment in front of our students at the Chennai office.

We utilized our proprietary mobile Internet speed tester, developed in-house by our team, for the experiment.

JioFi vs Jio SIM on a smartphone

Our experiment showed that a Jio SIM on a mobile phone (without background applications ) is slightly faster than a JioFi WiFi connection with a single device.

Today's post explains the technical reasons why our experiment showed the Phone with a Jio SIM was faster than the device connected to a JioFi.

Technical Reasons For a Phone with a Jio SIM Showed Faster Connection Than JioFi

Akash Mathew, a JNCIA-Junos student at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, asked, "Why did the Phone with a Jio SIM work better than the phone connected to the JioFi wireless network?"

The answer is simple.

The Phone using the SIM successfully connected to the Jio network with minimal latency.

Ashish Mudgal mentioned two more advantages a modern smartphone enjoys over a JioFi portable router. Phones often have advanced antennas and modems.

He continued, "JioFi has slightly higher latency due to WiFi transmission."

I suppose I should add a tip from my friend Joshy Roy, a senior executive at Reliance Jio, regarding the system software.

Joshy Said, "Users tend to update phone software often than the JioFi software. It affects the overall performance."

I mentioned the necessity to update the JioFi system software in a post published early on CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions.

Our Suggestion For Online Gamers

Jamsheer Muhammed, a regular reader of CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, asked a question in the comment section.

He is a hardcore online gamer and asked for my advice on whether he should use a phone with a Jio SIM or JioFi for a better gaming experience.

After completing our experiment, I recommended using a phone with a Jio SIM.

Conclusion

So, I will conclude this post with the same question I asked at the beginning. Is JioFi faster than using a Jio SIM in your Phone? In most cases, the answer is no.

Our experiment showed that a phone will deliver slightly better speeds.

But JioFi wins in convenience, multi-device support, and battery efficiency.
