Welcome to the System Admin training section of CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions. Today, I will narrate what exactly we did at the last Network Training workshop at our Chennai Office.

Ashish Mudgal, a Senior Network Engineer at CoreNetworkz EdTech Solutions, trained our new batch of Network Engineering students on the basic troubleshooting of SOHO devices.

We took a JioFi 4G Router to demonstrate and trained on how to troubleshoot issues by analysing the LED lights.

What JioFi LED Lights Are Trying to Tell Us?

Let me start by explaining why analyzing the LED lights on a JioFi wireless portable router is critical in troubleshooting a connection issue.

JioFi LED Lights

We offer IT certification courses in Chennai.

I believe my readers will find it interesting to know some of the questions asked by the fresh Network Engineering batch students in the workshop.

Anagha Sivakumar, a CCNA student at CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, asked, "Is there any external method to check the device status of a JioFi router?"

Arjun Bala, a student enrolled in the RHCE course, asked, "I noticed sudden changes in the JioFi LED light status while watching Netflix, attending a Zoom class, or just sending memes at midnight. Sometimes the lights are steady green, other times blue. Sometimes I see them blinking. Does it mean anything?"

Jaise Abraham, a new student, asked, "Can I check the JioFi battery health and overall device status from the LED light status?"

JioFi LED Lights Reveal the Device Health

The answer is simple. Yes, we can identify problems with a JioFi router by checking the LED lights.

The 3 Main LED Indicators on JioFi

Let me explain how to begin understanding the LED lights on a JioFi Device. A JioFi device usually comes with three primary LED indicators. They are:

  1. Battery LED

  2. Signal LED

  3. WiFi LED

Ashish Mudgal explained to the students that each LED has color codes and blinking patterns that represent specific statuses.

Analysing the Battery LED

According to Ashish Mudgal, the Battery LED (or Power LED) has four different statuses. They are:

  1. Green Light (Steady): Battery is full.

  2. Blue Light (Steady): Medium battery level. Might want to keep a charger nearby.

  3. Red Light (Steady): It shows a low battery warning.

  4. Red Light (Blinking): It means you should either turn off the device or plug it into a power source right away.

I believe you understand how to analyse the power LED (Battery LED) to troubleshoot a JioFi Device.

How To Analyze the Signal LED Light?

When you are facing connection issues, the first step is to check the Network Signal LED light. This one tells you how strong your network signal is.

Ashish Mudgal presented the following four statuses that help with troubleshooting a JioFi Device.

  1. Green Light: Strong signal.

  2. Blue Light: Moderate signal.

  3. Red Light: Weak signal.

  4. No Light: No network at all.

If you are planning to download a large file, I recommend waiting till the Network Signal light turns green.

Minu Kurian, a 3rd year B.Tech student, asked for remedies for weak signal issues. Ashish recommended that she try placing the JioFi near a window or away from electronic interference for better connectivity.

Analysing the JioFi WiFi LED

Ashish explained to the students at the workshop that the LED monitors WiFi connectivity and user activity. He presented the following three LED statuses to consider while troubleshooting a JioFi device.

  1. Green Light (Blinking): Device is broadcasting WiFi, and users are connected.

  2. Green Light (Solid): WiFi is active, but no devices are currently connected.

  3. No Light: WiFi is off.

All JioFi LED Lights Blinking

Durga Prasad, a CCNA student who recently joined CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions, asked, "What if all LED lights on a JioFi router are blinking? What does it mean?"

His question is valid.

Philip Curiakad, a senior technician at Jio Service Center, said, "If all LED lights are blinking, JioFi indicates a firmware issue."

I published a tutorial on this issue on CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions. Visit this link to learn more.

Let me conclude today's article. I believe readers of CoreNetworkZ EdTech Solutions will find this post helpful in understanding how we conduct IT workshops to train students in real-life scenarios.
